Random acts of kindness are a part of my daily life. Often times it costs nothing to be nice to people, and if it helps brighten their day, then I'm all for it.
I also donate to a number of charities on a regular basis, and I'm not sure if it THE NICEST thing, but it might be this one; It was about 15 years ago. It was Christmas time... I worked in an office with about 60-70 people. The company decided to sponsor a local kids charity, (I can't even remember which one), but it was for underprivileged children so they could get a Christmas Present. They way it worked was the kids made a picture of an Angel, with their gender and age on the back, and we put them all on our Christmas tree in the lobby of our office. There were a lot of angels! We were then asked to pick an Angel and buy a $25(ish) gift for them. I picked 2, and a bunch of others picked 1 or 2 (or more) depending on what they felt comfortable with.
3 days before we were supposed to drop the gifts off, there were still 8 Angels left on the tree... I felt bad that 8 children were left, so I went to the local mall, bought $200 in gift certificates and donated them anonymously to the charity committee, so they could take care of the last 8 Angels. (I didn't want to call attention to myself in doing this...) They did, and sent out a company wide e-mail to say thanks to whoever had done that.
I never took credit for it. And no one ever knew it was me.
