Back in the day my teachers used us kids to take their anti-Viet Nam message home to our parents.

Looking back my heroes then were cowards and dip-shits chicks who did not have a soul.

I hope they rot in Hell for their actions, then.

I find it hard to believe there are many, if any, self-identifying homosexuals walking around in elementary schools. Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'gay bashing'...?

Everyone knew at least one kid in public school who was gay or considered gay. They had a tough time, no need to elaborate.

You said 'everyone' knew at least one kid in public school (I'm assuming you meant elementary school?) who actually was gay or was considered gay.

a) feels like a very generic, speculative statement. As such, hard to take seriously. Pretty sure not 'everyone' knew someone.....

b) very hard to believe that there was any significant number of self-identifying homosexuals walking around elementary schools (K-8) 30-40 years ago when you were in elementary school, yet you say everyone knew one. Doubt it. Definitely not the social norm back then.

c) it was/is common for elementary school kids to call someone 'gay' or 'fag' or 'homo' etc. as an insult without truly even knowing what those terms actually meant or implied. Doesn't meant the target was actually a homosexual. In fact, in my experience, MOST if not ALL of the time, they weren't. Just kids using words they didn't/don't understand as bully tactic insults. I knew lots of kids in elementary and high school who were labelled 'gay' because of their lack of athletic prowess, their shyness, their number of female friends, their physical appearance, etc. but who were far from actually being gay. Just developing adolescents being victimized by other ignorant kids. Most of the victims didn't even truly understand what they were being labelled as beyond the common generalities....

Participate if you like, but don't cry when you post stuff that defies logic and common sense. At the very least, speak from the first person perspective, rather than generalizing or speculating.
 
I don't believe a sexuality flag should be displayed on elementary school. That includes a "hetero" flag if one existed.
You teach tolerance and inclusion through your actions, not through the displaying of a symbol. Kids emulate what they see you do and how they see you act.
Set an example by your actions and how you are seen treating others. That's how the message gets spread.

If speculating isn't welcome, don't ask for opinions.
 
I voted yes. I know it's not popular. In this day and age the rainbow flag signifies support of all people, of all colours, genders, whatthefuck ever.
Seriously, don't we get nobody can be made gay. There is not gay potion, gay spell. Folks are who they are.
And seriously some of us of a certain age all knew kids who were gay even before they knew. Some of chose to bully them, call them names, marginalize them.
Sadly I joined in sometimes, until I realized WTF. Live and let live.
Our sexuality is complicated and the sooner it get disentangled for law and religion the happier a lot of folks will be.
That said: We should always protect children from sexual predators.
Gay folks, near as I understand don't hurt children. And those few that do, are sexual predators.

Flags don't hurt kids. Ancient notions of child protection do.

That said: In the absence of clear rules, I'd suggest The only flag on any public institution's pole should be the national flag, provincial flag and city flag.

Just saying.
 
Hi Louis 14. To your points: I knew two - went through elementary and high school with them - small town. Of course, they never identified back in the day but we all teased them. They knew and we did. We were very cruel.
One man. One woman. Lesbo, fag, homo, looser. Both came out in early adulthood after we all moved away.
Some of said - whatever! We'd hung out with them as friends despite their rep. Yes I was part of a looser collective. We all survived.

Still friends with them. And yea it was in Elementary/High School - Catholic - 30-40 years ago.
Oh and my lesbian friend: Smoking hot- still after all these years! And every time I meet her I tell her "what a pity, when she coulda had me" And she laughs her ass off.
And thats what the Rainbow flag is about for me.
