The Responsibilities of a Mistress: A Dialectic

What would you do (have done) when the allowance stops?

Never has really. It has lessened, and people have moved on in life. It would depend - if I've known him years and he was really good to me: a: if it stopped for only a short while, things would continue on unchained. B: If it was stopping forever - I'd need to find a new provider, and so a plutonic relationship would be possible. I can't maintain more then 3-4 relationships without my head blowing up.

It's a modern form of polyandry, I agree.

Personally I wouldnt tolerate multiple client relationships

Funny I wouldn't tolerate an exclusive arrangement - I say so on my website.

Here's the problem with exclusivity - he walks away and I have nothing. I go through a jarring change in income which would require me to work full time. I'd much rather be cooking someone dinner, and making out over an evening scotch.

I love and believe in the value of being a fantastic homemaker - I just wan to get paid and not have a kid clinging to my leg :D

Also - it gives them far too much power over my life. People will put up with a lot of shit if their partner is the only source of income. And some partners will abuse their influence knowing they are the single source of material comfort.

Having multiple partners keeps life managable if someone leaves, and it allows me to maintain my independence, and no one abuses their influence.
