“If this family was moved the mother would have to fight off resident racoons. They would be toast the first night. It is best to let her live in an area she is familiar with. It is the best solution because here she knows where to find food and another den,” he said.

Interesting, makes sense.

make sense but i 'd rather kill them all. So Maurice can I borrow your gun?

These raCCOONS are such a pain as they continue to cause so much damages around my house.

ps. Sorry I m not in a huggable mood for these creatures. :ouch:

Have to put you on ignore. You are an idiot. Can someone show me how to put brainless people on ignore?.

I have to agree with boing, one thing you have to remember peace: they were here first and you are trespassing on their property.......(they as a species).

Interesting looking animals, I wonder how they'll fair though being bright white? If they survive to adulthood I'll be surprised.

I got news for you.

I would most likely hit you over your head with my gun than give it to you so you can kill an innocent animal.

Suck it up, like tboy said they were here first.

sorry..i just hate raccoons. I am just being honest. I was just speaking figuratively here. I dont own a gun nor do I want to. ..........and no i wouldnt shoot nor physically kick them but they still annoy me. of course, Tboy you have a point.:re: they were here first and I shouldn't complain.

Maurice, if you do have a gun, you SHOULD get rid of it.

ps. Boing you can call me any name or decide whatever you want.

forgive me for being "brainless"....if you dont mind me asking....why do you need a gun?

and one more thing...it's interesting of you to call me as "brainless" yet you need someone to show you how to put people on ignore...hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Actually peace, how about we trade "pests"??? You can have mine and I'll take yours......we have to deal with B E A R S up here.......

You're not the only ones who did that Odd.....when I was growing up there was a family in the 'hood who rescued an abandoned baby and raised him as well. Whenever they'd be out walking him all the kids would clamor around and rocky would be in heaven with all the attention he was getting.

I also knew another family who had a little black squirrel. They'd let him out and he'd romp around the trees all day and come in when they called him. I remember the girl would walk around with it on her shoulder.

I think both were finally taken to the riverdale zoo. This was long before there were such things as animal rescue etc. and even then, as stated in the article, now they just euthanize them.....

 I got your point Tboy. All I can say is that these raccoons are costing me a fortune. oh well.....cute but nasty creatures

I can empathize with your feelings peace, I encounter the same emotions around my house dealing with squirrels. I just wanna kill the little beasts when they work their way into the house. I have tried to find the entry point but to no avail, the hazard of living in a 1800's farmhouse. My solution is to set a havahart containment trap and I relocate them to a less populated reservoir area on my way to work. Less houses, more woods, same predators.
But I gotta add...
There is no more hugg-able varmint than the raccoon. We rescued and raised a baby as a "pet" when I was growing up. I use pet in quotations 'cause this is still a wild critter and I have no illusions to domesticated one. However, he roamed the house, would ask to go out, climb into our laps to be petted and would submit dutifully to being taken for walks on a leash. When taken into the woods without a leash, he would walk beside us and follow us back. They are amazingly curious, intelligent and clean with a luxuriously soft coat. We were able find a farm deep in the woods that took him on and he lived there comfortably for several years.

Thanks Oddball. I live in a city....is there any way how I can discourage the raccoons from hanging out in my area? They seem to love my decks and porch. Plus I live right by the ravine. I have to admit that I enjoy seeing the willow trees and plenty of animals and birds but I guess you cant have it both ways.

You're darn right you can't...that's hypocritical. To say "oh I like this animal and that animal and nature, but can you kill off THESE animals please? I don't like them very much....".

I'm curious: In what way are they costing you thousands? I have a big ol raccoon who comes to my patio door once in a while to check in on my cat. He walks up the stairs, across the deck, and down the other side. No damage no cost. I have deer that use my backyard as their own shortcut to the provincial park along the way. I tell you, last winter there was a path about 4' wide where the snow was trampled down almost to the grass.

Things you can do to discourage them:
1) Pick up some water cannons. They are motion controlled and spray the area whenever something walks by the motion sensor. Friends have them up here to discourage deer from eating all their flowers and if you forget, it's like navigating through claymores approaching charlie's village....
2) Make sure your garbage is sealed air tight and INSIDE. They come around looking for food and or shelter so if you don't provide them with either, they won't bother you.
3) Make sure you keep your grease cup and your BBQ spotless. Grease and food remnants on the grill will draw them like flies.

You might want to try one of these too:

or one of these water cannons:

I tell you, they work. My friends have a nice pretty garden free from deer shit.......

thanks for the advice...not sure if I can use the water cannons as I would be spraying at people as well...

secondly....why do i regret using the word "kill". I was speaking figuratively here...but like people and animals, some do ANNOY me. :)

LoL a Platoon reference?

LoL a Platoon reference?

actually it was more "apocalypse now" lol......

I was out paddling a canoe with a buddy and said to him: we can't go there, that's charlie's point heheheh then started paddling like madmen singing flight of the valkyries hehehe

but there is a specific path that you can take through them (they have about 10 set up) where you won't get wet, but you have to be fast lol AND accurate. Go an inch off that path and they start going off......one goes off, the water sets another off and next thing you know you're looking for dry jeans lol.....

They have one right by the garage door. Just thinking I should turn it around so when he walks out the side door BLAM lol.....

be careful or else BOing will label you as brainless and put you on his ignore list if he could. In the meantime, watch out for your head as Maurice will be ready to smack you in the head with his gun........:)
