Both parties are generally for increased government control, just in different areas. That's a trait of the left....not the right. Conservatives are supposed to be about adhering to the constitution as it was written...though some use it to push their religious or other agendas. Liberals are constantly trying to increase the government's reach into the daily lives of the citizens. Every time something goes even the least bit wonky, they start to cry that the government needs to step in.

Yes, none of what you stated has anything to do with left vs. right-wing. It's all a perverted Americanized sports match with nonsense definitions of left & right. In the rest of the world, nobody would call your parties left & right, they would call it right vs. far right.
Left-wing is generally about being pro-worker, advocating policies to help the poor (welfare, income equalization, etc.), and in general avoiding wars. Policies including, but not limited to, Medicare4All, $15/hr minimum wage, free/reduced cost college tuition, etc.
Right-wing is generally about being pro-business, advocating policies to help businesses (tax cuts, deregulation), and in general being for wars. It does not include reduced government interference, which is a Libertarian policy, quite unrelated to conservative policies. So advocating for more government control is actually quite classically conservative, as conservative is not Libertarian.
So if you look at the two parties' policies, you'll never find much difference in their policies. They are both for endless wars. Neither of them are for Medicare4All, both are controlled by big business, and do not represent the workers or the poor. They are both right-wing parties. The differences don't occur in policies, but in identity. The Democrats pay platitudes to being inclusive with gay people, blacks, Muslims, Hispanics, etc. While the Republicans don't bother paying platitudes to those things. But identity politics is easy to distinguish yourself, as there's no real policies there, all it involves is having a different attitude, and you don't have to say anything than "I'm with you!"
The Democrats have been doing this for the past 30 years, paying platitudes but not actually representing their people, and now it's caught up to them. The people no longer believe them, not even their own base. That's why Bernie Sanders caught on so heavily with the Democratic base. A party that's supposedly for the workers shouldn't be the party that introduces free-trade agreements around the world! So there's a revolution taking place within the Democratic party, more popular and powerful than the Tea Party revolution inside the Republicans, and way less covered by the mainstream media. Just about every Democratic congressman will be primaried in the next election by more left-wing Democrats. These are real left-wingers, economic populists, not the typical identity politics twats. Watch for it, when it comes you're going to say, "I didn't see that coming".
