TTC union president Bob Kinnear is accusing the Toronto Transit Commission of going to “ridiculous” lengths to stop drivers from using cellphones on the job, including disciplining employees for making calls on their break. Kinnear sent a message to all TTC employees Sunday informing them of mounting complaints over an alleged city-wide crackdown on uniformed workers using cellphones, even when not behind the wheel.

Kinnear could not confirm a precise number of employees affected in an interview with the Star, saying that seven representatives are currently dealing with the complaints.
But he estimated there are “40 to 50 people out of work right now due to cellphone use,” saying the complaints have been coming in for about two weeks.

According to the TTC spokesman he isn't 100% sure the union is stating the abosolute truth.....

But I agree with the union, if the employees are using their phones on break, or while stopped in station, etc. There's no problem with that.

However, I could also see the TTC telling employees to chill on the cellphone use after what happened in January, that would only be common sense.....

I also agree that the driver who took a picture of the person who spat on her shouldn't have been disciplined at all let alone, relieved then reinstated.

I guess supervisors are being a little over zealous in light of what's happened....

Guy was on the radio this morning saying he got fired after he parked his bus put on emergency lights and called head office because of a malfunctioning in the bus's technical lights or something like that.

Go figure?.
