Is there a forum subsection where I can specifically ask for "I'm into X and Y, which SP will be good fit for me" for the community to answer?

I would say absent its own forum, the Lobby is a good place to start.

The more specific you are the better the recommendation's will be.
Some may answer you in the forum or they may pm you so keep an eye on your mail box
Remember the ore homework you do the better your selection will be.
