It's hard to defend the driver but I'm getting sick and tired of these journalist want to be vigilantes with their iPhone in hand video taping workers. This driver will surely be made an example of and loose his job which I find apprehensible. I'm not about to try and defend the drivers actions because he was at it for a while but I can't stand busy bodies and snitches. I have more respect for a guy who has the balls to rap on that door and let the driver have it than secretly taping a video and then rushing home to put it on youtube.

ho lee crap.......that's got to be right up there in the top 10 of wtf were you thinking????

Now, with that being said, it's not like he has a lot to do. He can't run any reds, the brakes come on automatically if he goes through a red signal, so really, the only thing he has to do is put the brakes on when he enters the station, and put it in motion when the lights turn green on his dash....

But still, texting while driving a fricken train? BONEHEAD.......and a double bonehead for not at least pulling the blind down on the cab door window....

BTW: he wont' lose his job, hell the guy driving a bus drunk didn't......he'll probably get reprimanded and get a week's suspension with pay.....

The only real time I have an issue with someone breaking rules is when peoples safety is in jeopardy.

A good example is... I don't care if someone drinks or smokes pot, but if they come to work under the influence, I have no choice but to address it.

I agree what this operator did was a bone head move. Especially when all that's happened within the TTC. If the operator can be identified the TTC brass will have no choice but to attempt too fire him. The union will fight to get him back and may win but they will try and make an example out of him. I'm with MM, I think this intrusion by citizens is becoming a real problem in today's society.

Here's some more

In the comments one notes that it's the guard and not the driver. It's going to make for some interesting press over the next few days.

Give the guy a break, he was just checking the HUBGFE incall thread

The person that filmed this will get his-her due back. Really why bother filming it. I agree it's not right to text and drive but why sneak on people?.

Sometimes you have to think....It is not the Government who is watching
but us.....We are our own worst enemy to our freedoms.....
Now we are in a Society that doing this is normal.....
So Government and Police just has to go on Line to
do their job.....:toocool:

We are our worse own enemy I agree to that. Canadians are far too laid back.

I find it a bit odd that people seem more pissed at photographer than the driver. While both are wrong the offenses are even close to comparable. After all the publicity it just goes to show you how much the TTC employees really care - like zero - about you, me, their bosses.....

Why is the photographer wrong? If he was all in the drivers face than we would not see what really goes on the TTC. He was texting a long time, that's just wrong!!!

i have to agree with lisa here....what is so wrong about us doing our own policing? Couple that with the fact that the vast majority here applaud those who film cops doing their job and nary a peep out of anyone against the person doing the filming.......

Why the double standard? Hypocritical perhaps?

Last but not least, just how stupid do you have to be to a) text while driving a train b) text while driving a train full of people with digital video cameras and c) text while driving a train full of people with digital video cameras knowing full well that those people are watching every move you make and d) know full well that these people with digital video cameras caught some of your co-workers previously?

IMO not only should this employee be canned for doing what he's doing but for being a complete idiot in the process.......

Bang on, Bliss.

Just another reminder that George Orwell was both right and wrong.

Big Brother is watching, indeed. Orwell cast that famous phrase in terms of totalitarian government, but what he didn't foresee was technology providing citizenry with cell phone videocams and YouTube.

As Pogo observed, "We has met the enemy and he is us."

What will Ford have to say to this one?.

I wonder how many of those Ford voters are hiding now?

Making a mockery of the office of mayor is the only consistent goal being achieved.

All of Toronto should be embarrassed by this!

We are our own enemy .....I was also thinking, that some people use the technology
video cameras as a tool of control...Proud they got something on their phone...

Art, you are right .." We have met the enemy and he is us"
They ones post pics are the ones who do not think very deeply of
the outcome and freedoms we will sacrifice.....

As in Communist Countries we will soon start not trusting each other...etc...
Case like the newspaper in England taping phones....Or even the News
wanting you to video things that occur ......we are loosing our privacy...
When you put it on line and millions see it....If it is something embarrassing
your face is on the news or all over the web......
It late I am sick and bored.....

I agree, I think it's a violation of our privacy. I mean really, we all at one point and time do something at work that can cause a suspension or possibly a firing but for this particular ttc driver he does deserve a dumb ass award!! He left himself open, I mean seesh pull down a blind or keep the phone on the other side.

TTC is not a private company, no ones privacy was violated by shooting this video. The driver should be relieved of his subway train driving duties for endangering the public.

It is TTC policy if I'm not mistaken for the public not being allowed to photograph or video tape within the TTC. So being a public workers now strips one of all their rights?
