Another TTC Driver Caught

huh since when ...show me where it says that?

what if it was a bus driver and somebody snapped him from a public street while texting, how is that any different ?

I could be wrong about the policy but for some reason I remember reading about it during another incident. Regardless if it's policy or not I think it's wrong to invade someone's space with a video and throw it out on youtube. I'm not a big Ford supporter but I also thought it was wrong to video tape him going into KFC. Imagine we start being video taped going into an incall and find ourselves on youtube the next day. Where does it end??

The train is mostly computer controlled. Do you really believe everyone was in mortal danger or you just want to see a ttc driver/public servant lose their job? Yes, I agree the operator was and is an idiot for texting for so long and I'm sure he will pay a price for his stupidity but I'm hoping karma comes back and bites the video Nazi on the ass as well.

as i said before, i agree that the train really can't get into too much trouble if the driver isn't paying 100% attention but with that being said, even if the brakes do apply if he goes through a red signal, imagine the carnage with 100 or so passengers thrown forward when they lock up?

Still, he's in charge of 100 tons of train.....

As for your disdain for the one taking the video....i have to disagree. If there were a supervisor on every train, all the time, then yeah, the ttc would police their workers. Unless everyone is willing to pay $8.00 per ride, so they can afford to have a super on every bus and train, we have to police them ourselves.

Now i think you're pissed that the person posted it on youtube. I can understand this but think of it this way: if they just sent it to the ttc, would anything be done? I would hazard a guess to say no. If the video was shot by a reporter and they posted it on their website, would you still be as pissed?

As for you being shot going into an incall. I hope you realize that once you step out in public, whatever you do can legally he filmed, recorded and reproduced without your consent. So be careful when you do go to incalls because you could end up on youtube. Think of the john cams that residents of brampton used to do in areas where sw's were a problem. They'd shoot the cars, and the faces of men trolling for hookers onto a website.....

Now, texting while driving a train is illegal. Entering an incall used to be illegal. So a private citizen recording someone doing something illegal isn't a bad thing imo. Just like if someone recorded someone breaking into a car, stabbing someone, beating a woman etc......i should hope that a) they'd report it to the authorities and b) they'd post in on youtube for all to see so maybe the cops would catch the perp.....

So, the moral of the story is: don't do anything in public that you might live to regret.

Cams are everywhere now a days and you never know when one is being watched. I think privacy was given up with the explosion of Facebook and other social mediums.

I understand taping the driver....but even people who work are not 100%
always focus on their jobs....Now I am not saying everybody ...there are
professions that are trained to be focus for long periods of time......It not our
nature to be on constant alert all the time.....

If people do not mined losing your rights then we all should be waring small cameras
to tape our day....It would solve crime.....solve who is doing their jobs....solve cheating
and lying from all people....then people can take a step forward by using the tape
to sue anybody they feel have done them wrong......even at home you would need to
keep it on........So now we do not have freedoms, we have become controlled by the
technology that was to make our very lives easier......

Blissful, very good counter argument. It does seem our rights are slowly being eroded, especially at the work place. I work for the city and right now being a city worker is awful. I feel sorry for the TTC workers as well. It was not long ago I worked in the private sector and I'm telling you I'm thinking of going back. The supervisor harassment is becoming a real thorn in the side. Actually if I can take my business to the next level I'm sending my letter of resignation directly to Rob Ford. First line will be :

TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR BIG KFC EATING ASS!

Robin:

Not sure what rights you're talking about.

The right to break the law? (texting while driving a train is against the law).
The right to goof off?
The right to do your job poorly?

I dunno what you're talking about

(if you're referring to your right to privacy, you never had that right when in public...and "in public" means when you're not in your main domicile).

I agree texting while driving is against the law but that doesn't necessarily mean many agree with the law. The law on the 401 is 100kph but most do 120 clicks because most think 100kph is too slow. I also don't agree with charging and pulling people over for going 10 to 15 clicks over the speed limit.

I drive all over the city and I'd more than likely plow my truck into someone I thought was video taping me without my permission. Do gooder nosy bodies drive me nuts unless of course it's to save some one from harm. I had a lady give me shit for wanting plastic bags at the grocery store. I asked for 2 bags and she asked me if I was too lazy to bring my own bags, wtf. I then ordered 5 more just to piss her off.

while i agree repo in principal, but you have to take the severity of the offence into account. It has been proven that driving while texting impairs you to the same extent as driving under the influence......so while driving 10 k over the limit is in fact against the law, it is about 1% as severe as driving while drunk...wouldn't you agree?

There are 2 different points being express.....
Everybody should follow the law...texting....driving fast etc...
The next is having your picture plastered over the web....and lost of privacy.....

In saying this....Yes people could follow the law because they are there
for a reason....

Next if you do not mind that you are being watch, tape and posted on
line 24/7 then that is great......For myself the technology has become
a way for people to keep track of you.....In every pic you take there is
a gps tracking on it on your cell....

In putting the 2 together you get people who feel they are in control of
everybody and taking pics of wrong doings....maybe from littering or
jail walking so on and so on and the cops just watch it on line
send the tickets to you.....

You cut somebody off....you drove too fast.....you are drunk in public....
Even though I follow the law, I would hard time to have somebody just following
me around waiting for me to do something wrong.....

Just a little FYI, if you're driving your car and texting or cellphoning, and you then get into an accident and kill someone, you can be charged with (vehicular) manslaughter

i thought it would be more like criminal negligence causing death?

doesn't matter up here anyways, if you purposely kill someone you can be out in 3 yrs........

two comments about this: all airliners have alarms that sound very LOUDLY if the landing gear isn't deployed within a certain distance from the ground. Therefore two things: either this story is BS (because the co-pilot wouldn't feel something was wrong, it would be the loud alarm ringing in the cockpit) or they both ought to be jailed for being stoned on crack.

Did I just prove that you didn't read the whole article?

When the plane fell to 500 feet with the landing gear still not deployed, a warning alarm sounded and it was only then that the pilots thrust the plane back into the air, investigators said.

I agree that something should have been done to these pilots. Using this as a case study is not good enough.
Despite the errors, the Board did not issue fines against Jetstar or the pilots.A Jetstar spokesman said the airline made the flight a case study and used it to introduce procedural changes for pilots including completing landing checklists before 1,000 feet and a reminder to pilots to ensure their mobile phones are switched off before take-off.

no, i didn't read the whole article.......all that text is hard on my one good eye.....the other is still out of commission.......

Fair enough T, good question. I will start off first with the harassment we now receive when we call in sick. Sick days which we have legally earned and are allowed under our contract to use. Management is after anyone who calls in sick regardless of their record. I can understand going after the individuals that call in every Friday but throwing the blanket over everyone is not fair. Secondly, washroom time is starting to be timed by some supervisory personnel. I find this disgusting, I can't remember since grade school being timed when one goes to the washroom. The nickle and diming is so apparent right now it's disgusting to witness.

Then there is the illusion that every public worker does his or her job poorly. I'm sorry but most of the employees I've dealt with are actually hard working people with the odd lazy ass here and there just like in the private sector. It's amazing when I work outside with the public the looks and comments I hear from some because of the media scrutiny. It use to be a good secure paying job but over the last few years it's becoming a very stressful job that when I look at my pay checque, I'm now starting to think it's not worth it.

Privacy, hell yeah we should all have the right to privacy but I have to agree with you, it's not easy anymore with all the technology at everyone's finger tips.
