You have a thread full of people disgusted by the actions of these officers, it's pretty obvious you're opinion is not that of the majority. Why you single out the only lady posting is beyond me. That's the way it's always been on this board. The ladies try to have a discussion and you guys attack them. Now..you go ahead and have the last word.. I'm not even going to bother reading it. There are places I can go where the ladies are actually made to feel welcome.

So if I disagree with someone on here I'm attacking them, lol.

That's mighty rich.

You are living in a dream world Ms. Bliss. The Kennedy era died when the bad guys killed his and many millions' dreams. Remember, power means greed and corruption.

I think you misunderstood me...what I am saying the Police Should be like that ......
Where our kids would look up to them......

I am not saying they are like that......but there are Good Cops out there......

What these cops did was as bad as the Cops in South Africa dragging that Taxi Driver...

ah yes.. the flaw with the ignore list is that when quoted, the ignored are visible.

Is it normal for the female posters in the lobby to be insulted like this? What a bully.

It his frustration in not having sex.....or not being able to have sex.....
Guys who bully women are the lowest form of men....it just as a man who hits

Jess, the irony is that he is not a hobbyist. You and I know all about folk like that from elsewhere.

wow. I'm new here, but there a lot of hostility in here.
I watched the vid and had a couple of points.

1st. The cops tell him repeatedly to allow them to hadcuff him, and he refuses. All he had to do was comply.
2nd. The beginners in my martial arts classes could have subdued this guy without the need for batons let alone tazers, and a lot faster than these trained cops.
3rd. The response or "attack" by the officers was in response to a weapon call. So it's not quite the same as a racially motivated South African cop beating a cabbie.

I tend to cut cops and soldiers a lot of slack since most of us haven't a clue what it means to go into work and put your life on the line. Sometimes things escalate. Unfortuately when things escalate in those jobs someone usually ends up hurt or dead. I think that based on how these guys let things escalate that the public interest is probably best served if they were not cops, or at least active responders. Obviously they let an unarmed (at the time of arrest) perp refuse compliance and the best thing they could come up with was repeatedly beat him even though it wasn't resulting in compliance. A smarter cop would have realized that and gone with a different approach. A plan b, so to speak. These guys couldn't or wouldn't do that. Hopefully not the best the Chattanooga PD has to offer.

As for the accusations of bullying etc. I'll steer clear of that one. Looks like the participants have history, and as I said I'm new here.

For a newbie that was a pretty good post.

I am kind of a newb here but have been around. Been told this is the nicer board and has been, as attacks are not as vindictive as there.

Therefore, lets clear the air. It does not matter what the fugitive did or wanted to do to it's victims.

It's what the police manpower tried to do that is wrong, unethical and mean-vindictive. Two wrongs never made a right. You guys get that or do I have to spell it out like kindergarten kids?.

Trying to protect or make excuses for either parties is so wrong. Again, the cops used extreme violence to a bad loser of a person. It is wrong according to our society. So those that agree he had it coming better check their IQ. The cops went ovecommunity and got fired. So stop being so childish on protecting them.

Chattanooga police, attorneys for ex-officers respond to video of inmate beating (with video)

Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd
Remarks made at a news conference this morning concerning a video that showed police officers beating a man.

Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd called the police beating of federal inmate Adam Tatum one of the worst cases he has seen in his 25-year career.
“Unfortunately we’re in a situation, in an occupation that’s very volatile, sometimes,” Dodd said in a news conference this morning. “Sometimes split-second decisions can end your career and actually put you in jail.
“But our department, the city of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Police Department, we do not condone this activity. Nor will it be tolerated.”

A video released Wednesday night by Adam Tatum’s attorney, Robin Flores, shows former Officers Sean Emmer and Adam Cooley ruthlessly beating Tatum.
At the time of the June 14 incident, Tatum was housed in the Salvation Army building on McCallie Avenue when officers were called to respond to a disorder. Tatum was kicking the door of a control room where staff members were inside.
The building’s surveillance cameras show inmate Adrian McGhee tried to talk Tatum down. At the time, Tatum was wielding a knife when staff members called authorities.
For about 10 minutes, officers delivered blows to Tatum, who was repeatedly told to get on the ground and roll over. Tatum fled to another room initially after the knife was taken away from him, but through much of the struggle, Tatum remained on the ground.

Tatum suffered six fractures to his right leg and two fractures to his left leg, including a compound fracture. His attorney has filed a $50 million lawsuit on his behalf.
Both Emmer and Cooley are appealing to get their jobs back.
Dodd says he will appeal to an administrative law judge to make sure that doesn’t happen.
“I’ll lay the facts out and hopefully that person will look at this and say, ‘It’s excessive. It’s outside the policies. And these officers do not need to be on the streets.’ I personally would not subject the citizens of Chattanooga to these two officers and the type of action they took,” Dodd said.
Within a couple of hours of Dodd’s news conference, attorneys representing Emmer and Cooley issued a statement on behalf of the ex-officers.
“Chattanooga officers are trained to never assume that a suspect has only one weapon. This city has seen officers killed in the line of duty after de-escalating force only to learn that the criminal has a second weapon,” according to a statement from attorneys Stevie Phillips and Bryan Hoss.
“Here, Tatum turned on these officers with a knife and attacked. He repeatedly ignored the lawful orders to ‘stop resisting’ and ‘put your hands behind your back.’”
A Hamilton County grand jury declined to indict the officers. However, it’s possible federal charges will be handed down.

From the report! Adam Tatum (Federal Inmate being housed at a Salvation Army 1/2 way facility) had a knife and was threatening the Salvation Army staff, who are not Corrections Officers and are not to physically intervene this applies to both Canada and the USA. Police are called quickly to handle these situations. Adam Tatum DID NOT COMPLY with Police. Being in a 1/2 way facility, means he is an inmate and will likely be going back to prison to serve the rest of his sentence and possibly more for new charges.

These two ex-police officers could and should have batoned, sprayed or tasered Adam Tatum. Their use of physical intervention was abusive and poor which relates to supervision and training problems. The next issue is the two ex-police officers did not communicate with each other of when to move in and take control. If they had, it would have been a very different outcome for all involved and that's not to say it would have been text book but the resisting, escape and inappropriate use of force would probably not have occured.

There are situations where brute force and quite probable the excess of force are necessary; however, this was not one in my opinion.

Chief Dodd is correct in firing these two and let it be said that the US police forces differ in discipline from Canada. Their county had a grand jury and they refused to indict the two ex-officers. Federal prosecutors can and may decide to go after these two ex-officers. Wouldn't it be ironic if these three men were range mates in Federal prison! It could happen!

The vast majority of responders comments are made on emotion from what is seen, and we'll never know what actually happened leading up to the force being used. I also find it humourous that readers jump on corrections, military, police or security but certainly want them available when it suits their needs. Walk a mile in their shoes before you judge. Get all the facts before formulating an opinion.

Were these two ex-officers wrong? Absolutely! Because they had other options but then the general public would have said, "Why did they baton him, spray him or tase him?" There isn't a great deal of law and order within the public.

what? what justice??? they got FIRED... you call that JUSTICE. I call that a JOKE. I'd like to see them sit on the floor and take 200 hard shots. Bastards.

The justice is being fired. Their county held a grand jury and they wouldn't indict. The Federal Prosecutors will likely follow up. Your comments are out of emotion but none of us really know the full story.
