Was looking through the Hot Docs program and came across this film which I think may interest some here:



"Following the recent acts of violence and murder of street prostitutes across Canada, the Ontario Superior Court struck down the laws regulating prostitution, sparking legal appeals and contentious debate. Sex brilliantly zeroes in on two radically different visions at the heart of these debates through the stories of those who have most at stake: the buyers and sellers of sex. Sex workers who successfully challenged the laws argue for a model of decriminalization, a capitalist free market of consensual sellers and buyers. Another group calls for zero tolerance that would criminalize the buyers, arguing that street prostitutes are overwhelmingly poor, gendered and racialized. As an appeal wends its way through the courts, the film travels to New Zealand and Sweden, two countries that have adopted these models, and uncovers some surprising and unexpected results. Ultimately, the film asks the viewer to decide which vision would lead to a more just society"

Sounds interesting. I will likely take in a screening along with a dozen or so other docs this year.

There may very well be some nudity, but if so, I suspect, it will likely be tame. You'll probably see more nudity in a mainstream Hollywood movie with erotically romantic sex scenes.

Buying Sex is an issue-focussed documentary, so there's bound to be lots of talking heads. You might know some of them. They may very well be members here and on other escort review boards.

That's because the producers registered memberships on several review boards about two years back, posted threads describing this documentary and solicited input from both providers and clients.

I had lengthy PM discussion at that time with director Teresa MacInnes but opted not to participate in an on-camera interview for risk of outing myself.

University research on sex industry

Trying to find a thread started in the past month or so by a researcher at University of British Columbia (I believe) inviting members here to participate in a study about the "hobby" as conducted on-line versus street trade. Been searching for it to share with a friend but can't seem to locate it.

Anyone recollect said thread? Also, out of curiosity, anyone participate?

That's not it my friend. That thread is about a documentary film in production during the Terri-Jean Bedford challenge against prostitution laws at the supreme court two years ago. That film is now finished and hitting the documentary circuit.

What I'm referring to is a university researcher who posted here and on several other boards in the past month or so inviting people to participate in a current on-line survey.

Actually don't think it was this board, after all.

I have since found the actual website for the research project and have emailed them to suggest posting here, as well as indicating that if I don't hear back from them or see them post here in the next couple days, I'll start a thread to draw it to the attention of HUBGFE members.

Would their website right now, but think I should wait a couple days for them to join the board and post the info themselves.
