Made with Love

Did you know?.

The cocaine-smuggling kingpin played by Johnny Depp in “Blow” is out of prison after nearly 20 years.

Massachusetts-born George Jung, who helped the Medellin cartel import as much as 85% of the cocaine available in the U.S. in the late ‘70s, on Monday left a minimum-security prison in New Jersey a few months ahead of schedule and was bound for a halfway house on the West Coast, reports Boston magazine.

“Boston George” was sentenced to 60 years in 1994 but had his sentence reduced for testifying against a former accomplice. In a 2000 interview with PBS, he described himself as a “coke star” during his smuggling heyday, who “had a lot of money and unlimited access to cocaine and even if I looked like Bela Lugosi I still had the most beautiful women on the planet.”

Authorities in Pursuit of Driver Wanted for Making Threats

Authorities were in pursuit of a Nissan Altima on Monday after the driver allegedly made threats against another person and then fled from officers.

The incident began in the 4900 block of Axtell Street in El Sereno (map) at about 10:15 a.m., according to Officer Wendy Reyes of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver allegedly made criminal threats against a victim and took off in a red Nissan Altima when officers called for back up, Reyes said.
The driver eluded authorities by entering and exiting several Southland freeways, including the 101, 110, 10 and the 5, aerial video from Sky 5 showed.
The driver appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed, nearly colliding with several other vehicles, during portions of the pursuit, video showed.

Morning Agenda: A Closer Look at Uber’s Valuation

For those who don't understand: The app shows the user the location of the nearest private taxi (not a black cab) and the user then orders it, and it picks them up within a couple of minutes since it was just around the corner.

Taxi! Central London and other European capitals are gridlocked by cab drivers protesting at introduction of cut-price fare app Uber. So they're complaining because people will book private taxis instead of black cabs because they're cheaper and they don't have to wait.

Hidden 'Ocean' Discovered Deep Underground Near Earth's Core

We may have another "ocean" to add to the world map -- only this one is hidden hundreds of miles beneath our planet's surface.
A new study suggests that a hidden "ocean" is nestled in the Earth's mantle some 400 miles beneath North America. The hidden reservoir, apparently locked in a blue crystalline mineral called ringwoodite, may hold three times as much water that exists in all the world's surface oceans.

This discovery may help explain where Earth's water supply came from, and how subterranean water affects the shifting of rock in the Earth's outer crust -- a phenomenon scientists call plate tectonics.

"Geological processes on the Earth’s surface, such as earthquakes or erupting volcanoes, are an expression of what is going on inside the Earth, out of our sight," geophysicist , an associate professor at Northwestern University, said in a written statement. "I think we are finally seeing evidence for a whole-Earth water cycle, which may help explain the vast amount of liquid water on the surface of our habitable planet. Scientists have been looking for this missing deep water for decades."

Working with University of New Mexico seismologist Dr. Brandon Schmandt, Jacobsen used seismometers to measure earthquakes and the speed of resulting seismic waves at various depths in the Earth. From those readings, the team saw that seismic waves seem to slow down when they hit the layer of ringwoodite in the mantle -- leading them to theorize that the mineral was saturated with liquid.

To verify the theory, the team then attempted to replicate the ringwoodite layer in the laboratory. They found that ringwoodite attracts hydrogen and that it's capable of absorbing water much like a sponge, the Guardian reported.

So, according to the research, the hidden "ocean" may be trapped in the transition zone between the Earth's upper and lower mantle. The researchers think that movement within the mantle spurred a reaction that led the water to merge with the ringwoodite.

While some scientists subscribe to the theory that Earth's early water came from comets that came our way, the discovery of the hidden reservoir suggests that the world's water emanated from deep beneath the surface.

"It's good evidence the Earth's water came from within," Jacobsen told New Scientist.

A paper describing the research was published in the journal Science on June 13, 2014.

US Banks enjoyed more or less steadily climbing, or rather soaring, deposits by Russian institutions and individuals, having tripled in just two years to $21.6 billion by February, according to the .

It may seem a bit counterintuitive that in times of ZIRP anyone would put any money in any US banks, and it may seem even more counterintuitive that Russians who have other opportunities with their money would voluntarily subject themselves to the Fed’s financial repression.

But from the Russian point of view, earning near-zero interest on their deposits in the US and losing money slowly to inflation must have seemed preferable to what they thought might happen to their money in Mother Russia. Money that isn’t nailed down has been fleeing Russia for years, even if it ends up in places like Cyprus where much of it sank into the cesspool of corruption that were the Cypriot banks, which finally collapsed and took that Russian money down with them. By comparison, the US must have seemed like a decent place to stash some liquid billions.

But in March, the Ukrainian debacle burst into the foreground with Russia’s annexation of Crimea, which wasn’t very well received in the West. The US and European governments rallied to the cause, and after vociferously clamoring for a sanction spiral, they actually imposed some sanctions, ineffectual or not, that included blacklisting some Russian oligarchs and their moolah.

So in March, without waiting for the sanction spiral to kick in, Russians yanked their moolah out of US banks. Deposits by Russians in US banks suddenly plunged from $21.6 billion to $8.4 billion. They yanked out 61% of their deposits in just one month! They'd learned their lesson in Cyprus the hard way: get your money out while you still can before it gets confiscated.

[h=1]A Florida Man Had To Shoot An Intruder Himself When His 911 Call Went To Voicemail[/h]Four men had broken into the man’s home and were demanding money and prescription drugs.

[h=2]After four robbers broke into his home with guns last week, a man in Port Richey, Fla., called 911 — but when the dispatcher tried to transfer the call from the fire department to the police, the man ended up.[/h]

[h=2]On the recorded call, the robbers can be heard screaming in the background demanding money and prescription drugs, as the recorded call comes on: “If this is an emergency, hang up and dial 911. Thank you for calling — “[/h]

[h=2]As the chaos continued, the man took matters into his own hands and shot one of the robbers himself,.[/h]
The dispatcher then comes on, and the man tells him his wife and stepmother were injured in the robbery.
County deputies claim the transfer problem didn’t slow down their response time to the crime scene, which took more than three and a half minutes. They also said steps are being taken to prevent the occurrence from happening again.
Three of the robbers have since been caught, including the man who was shot.

HALIFAX—Five children in four provinces have been rescued after a national investigation that targeted alleged child sex offenders, the RCMP said Thursday.

More than 150 people have been arrested or are under investigation as part of the operation that began in February, and more than a million images have been seized, some involving infants, the Mounties said.

“I cannot stress enough what these images are and what they are not,” RCMP Sgt. Michael Petrilli told a news conference in Halifax.

“These images are not simply children having a bubble bath. They are clearly children that are in a situation where they are being sexually assaulted.”

Investigators say two of the children who have been rescued are from British Columbia, and the other three are from Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

More than 40 police agencies were involved in the investigation.

I find this to be true. I'm always looking for dirt paths and roads to walk on rather than cement or ashphalt. There is something therapeutic about being surrounded by nature and natural substances.
