About 250 firefighters fought to put out a massive blaze in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning.

The fire started around 1:20 a.m. at an apartment building under construction, the @LAFD tweeted. The flames engulfed the building and then spread to three floors of an adjacent office building that houses the county health department and to a 16-storey building across the street.

Stretches of two major highways as well as streets near the building were shut down ahead of the morning commute, and the fire department urged caution near the fire due to falling shards of glass in the area.

There were no reports of any injuries, but damages were expected to be in the multiple millions of dollars.

[h=1]Three teens charged in bullying caught on video[/h][h=2]Thousands share and watch videos showing girl punched, slapped and threatened. Police say the alleged attackers have been charged.[/h]

Thousands of people have shared and watched two videos showing a teenage Brampton girl being punched, slapped and threatened by another teen girl.

The versions of the videos, from 1:49 to three minutes, have been posted on various Internet sites but were taken down from YouTube on the weekend.

Two teenage girls and one teen boy, all 17 years old, have been charged with robbery in connection with the incident, Peel Regional Police said Monday.

The confrontation was taped Oct. 24, somewhere inside a north Brampton plaza, according to police. The bullied girl spoke to school authorities, who contacted police. The three accused were charged on Oct. 29.

The videos appears to show the girl saying “stop, stop” as she is punched in the stomach and arm, and slapped across the face. The girl’s cellphone is taken away from her.

“You say anything to anybody about us doing this, we’re going to have a problem,” she is told as she is backed up against a cinder-block wall.

“It’ll be a lot worse if you say anything,” she is warned.

At one point, it appears one girl is standing behind the victim holding her arms at her sides while another punches her in the stomach.

She struggles and appears to be trying to get away, and repeatedly asks for her phone back, saying she will not tell the police. A voice off-camera says, “I don’t trust her.”

Twitter users alerted police to the video Monday morning, calling for action.

“Something needs to be done about this. Bullying has to stop, spread awareness,” one tweet read.

Peel police spokesperson Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick assured people on social media that the incident had been investigated fully and charges laid, and it was unknown why the videos are just now being posted, more than a month afterward.

“Investigators do know who took the video,” Fitzpatrick said, but the videographer’s identity would not be released.

She said police have no control over the posting of the video, even though it appears to show youth under 18 years of age committing a crime. The law prohibits the identification of young offenders.

The video was posted on YouTube but was later removed, and replaced by a statement: “This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy prohibiting content designed to harass, bully or threaten.”

Social-media users offered sympathy for the victim and condemned the bullying as a cowardly act.

“The girl being bullied was so cute and innocent I just wanted to hug her,” one tweet reads.

AN 11-year-old schoolboy has joined Mensa after scoring higher than Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates and Albert Einstein in an IQ test.

Ramarni Wilfred started showing signs of genius as a toddler, when his favourite book was an encyclopedia.

He could read and write by the time he started reception at school and last year, at the age of 10 and still in primary school, wrote a philosophy paper on fairness that earned him a 2:1 and a mock Oxford graduation.

When his reception class wanted to move him up a year, mum Anthea objected, wanting him to grow up with other kids his age.

Prof. Hawking, Microsoft founder Gates and Einstein all have 160 IQs. Ramarni scored 162, putting him in the top 1% in the UK.

Anthea, 37, said: “He’s still just a little boy doing normal childhood stuff. While he reads the New Scientist and the Sky at Night, he still plays with his dog, watches the Disney Channel and reads comics.

“Mensa allows him to talk and be with other people as clever as he is for the things that go over my head.

“He doesn’t think it’s a big deal. I love his humility and I love having my own personal walking, talking dictionary/thesaurus/calculator!”

Ramarni, who will be starting Year 8 at secondary school next month, harbours hopes of one day studying at Oxford and becoming an astrophysicist.

The modest youngster, from Romford, Essex, said: “I can’t begin to compare myself to these great men whose hard work clearly proves that they are true geniuses.

“This is a great opportunity and I think it can open a lot of doors for me. But I also believe that having a high IQ isn’t that important unless you do something really special with it.”

Ramarni’s former teacher, Valerie Mulae, described him as “remarkable”, adding: “He just stood out. He shone.”

Mensa’s chief executive, John Stevenage, said: “Anyone who registers an IQ score which places them in the top two per cent of the population has done remarkably well. The score Ramarni achieved therefore is very good and shows he has great potential.”

This is one lucky kid. He's got parents who understand his potential while also understanding his need to be a kid. Not bad having Mensa as a support system either.
