I don't see the vets actions as being unethical, if all happened as the vet represented, then the vet, imo, acted as a doctor should, in the best interest of their patient. She saved the dogs life and those treatments would have far surpassed the monies the owner paid to euthanize the dog, so they don't deserve any money back, or any consideration at all. Like many owners, when their dog shows signs of illness, and $$ is required to save it's life, many opt for euthanization because they can't justify spending x amount of money on an animal. So once again, I say good for the vet

No way would e doctor have done the operation for the fee of the euthanization and give the dog back to a family that di not care about the animal.
A lot of people have pets and say they love them and all that but when it comes time to dip into the wallet and pay for surgery its another story.
This is a very sticky situation the doctor was in and he tried to help the animal.

The cost of the cure could have been well beyond their means; it could be several thousand in total cost.
But cheaper for a vet who wouldn't have to pay for her own time or use of her facilities.

Given that the dog was given away (not sold), I have no problem with what the vet did (at what is likely considerable personal expense in terms of her time and facilities).

What I don't get is how the original owners could recognize the dog.
