TORONTO - Disgraced CBC star Jian Ghomeshi appeared unfazed in a Toronto courtroom as three more women have come forward with sexual assault allegations against him.
Ghomeshi, 47, now faces eight charges involving six women but remained free on his $100,000 bail.
His lawyer Marie Henein said to the phalanx of media that her client will be pleading not guilty to all charges and she will defend her client in court not through the media.
Women have recounted tales of alleged physical abuse, including being punched, bitten and slapped by Ghomeshi, before and during sexual encounters with him.
Ghomeshi will not be in court on Feb. 4 when his case returns as Henein will be filing a designation that permits his counsel to attend without him.
Ghomeshi said nothing to reporters and some hecklers as he exited the courthouse, surrounded by Toronto Police officers escorting him to a waiting station wagon on Yonge St.

I was hoping not to follow this trial, keep out of this continuous cycle of trainwrecks that become celebrities. But of course, you know what you do with trainwrecks: you watch them! The witness was Lucy DeCoutere, best known as Lucy from The Trailer Park Boys, she has accused Jian of sexually assaulting her. Today a bunch of emails and handwritten letters show that she kept trying to stay in contact with Ghomeshi even after he was supposedly have assaulted her. She was infatuated with him, and actually loved the bondage acts that they did together. The only problem is that after all of this time, she forgot all about everything that came after the bondage.

Oh Lucy, you have a lot of ’splaining to do.

My bias admitted: As a woman, I so wanted Lucy DeCoutere to be a strong witness in the Jian Ghomeshi sexual assault case. After the first complainant’s story fell apart so spectacularly earlier this week, I wanted the Trailer Park Boys actress to show legitimate victims with credible accounts that they shouldn’t fear coming forward, that the system would treat them fairly, honourably.

As a successful actor and a captain in the military with a master’s in education, she was a smart woman who would certainly be able to hold her own against any defence lawyer, even the terrifying Marie Henein. I was pulling for her.

Sad to say, she let us down. But so, too, did the Crown and the police who did a disastrous job in preparing this case for trial.

Another cross-examination, another implosion. Once again, it was a series of retrieved e-mails, photos and even a handwritten love letter produced by Henein like a magician from her hat of tricks that showed that contrary to what she told police and the media, DeCoutere was infatuated with the radio personality and sought to see him often — even just hours after she says he choked and slapped her in his Riverdale home on July 4, 2003.

Looks like the Jian Ghomeshi trial is about to come to an end very quickly, as all of the witnesses so far have been thoroughly demolished by Ghomeshi's defense team. They are arguing over one more witness to appear, which rumour has it is one of Lucy DeCoutere's Trailer Park Boys co-actresses, Sarah Dunsworth.
