Oh shit you are a cop.

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's sergeant shot and killed a man who tried to rob him Monday night at a Far South Side gas station.
A gun pointed at his gut, the off-duty sheriff's sergeant digs through his pockets with his left hand, fumbling for money, as the three robbers surround him at the Far South Side gas station.

The sergeant is surer with his right hand, quickly drawing his own gun and firing point-blank. The gunman, 16, drops at his feet as the two others scatter, according to surveillance video that captured the robbery Monday night at a Citgo station at 103rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, across the street from Gately Stadium.

The sergeant swings around at the fleeing robbers, then points the gun down as the gunman struggles to get up. The video shows the sergeant kicking away the robber's gun and then opening the passenger door of his own car, apparently to get his phone.

The 16-year-old, Deonta Dewight, was shot in the head and died at the scene, according to police. He had lived in the 900 block of East 104th Street, about four blocks from where he died.

The sergeant was not injured, and police said they were still looking for the two other robbers.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. as the sergeant was filling his car at the Citgo station, police said.

The surveillance video shows a man, a gun in his right hand, running up to the sergeant and pointing the gun at him. The sergeant backs way, drops the nozzle and raises his hands, according to the video. Two other men run up and join the gunman, according to the video.

The sergeant appears to hand something over to the gunman, then continues digging through his pockets with his left hand, the video shows. Then the sergeant's right hand quickly swings around and the sergeant fires at the gunman, according to the video.

My thoughts exactly . . .

. . . and somebody else's too.

Jeez, Primo .... make up my mind, would ya?

:-Cool/"

Well if ain't that a shame. You play by the sword and proof that you will die by the sword.

That boy would still be alive if this gun-crazy cop woulda just given up his wallet. There was no need to fire on the kid! He was just misguided and he was under peer pressure and life wasn't fare to him and he was a different race. We should ban guns so tragedies like this don't happen again!

I'm glad the officer was able to defend himself. I believe that if criminals had to worry more about people being armed and able to defend themselves, they wouldn't be as likely to try and commit the crime.

I was waiting for type of comment! :LMAO:

Oh really? There was NO reason for him to shoot the guy? What about the minor detail of the imminent threat to his life posed by the young man pointing a gun at him?

Forget the attempted theft, which is completely irrelevant, as is the background and race of the assailant. I don't care if you are a blind, deaf, paraplegic, learning disabled orphan whose foster parents abused him, and later got cancer and then donated all of your money tobuild a hospital for sick children. It doesn't matter how sad your story is. If you are threatening my life, I will do everything in my power to stop you, and never have a single moment of guilt or regret.

Now, I actually agree on gun control, but not for the reason provided.

Uh dude he was being sarcastic, lol.

Primo doesn't need emoticons, Ms Sarah. His split personality is perfectly clear in that post.

As, I presume, is mine in the next one.

But I threw in that emoticon just for you in case I might get chastised for not using one.

If I wasn't so dense, I would have figured it out for myself, with or without emoticons!

Dense? I didn't realize that was your problem. In that case . . .

No soup for you!

Try having a few beers before reading next time, everything becomes crystal clear when you're under the influence. :drunk:

Right on, Bosco.

Doesn't take a whole lot of research to figure that out.

Where are the gun control nuts on this one? I thought my sarcastic comment would have brought them out from under their gun-free rocks.

I don't think anybody could logically argue against this shooting.

And I'll give the police officer credit for not running after the other two and finishing them off.

Agree, you aim to punish...I shoot, easy enough.

I'm sure the off duty officer caught some flak at home from the family and some against what he did. In my opinion, I'd pin a medal on his chest.

The location was in South/East Chicago. Not even safe there in the daytime. Real bad area.
