In Need of a Pick Me Up

The last couple of weeks have seen me feeling rather blah. To best illustrate it, I felt like Wens and Thurs mornings' weather; dull, dreary. Basically, unmotivated.

Normally a pick me up that I used to use was to go out and get myself "something nice", ie a new guitar. But in all honesty it was at best a pseudo solution, and didn't really help.

So, I'm looking for some suggestions that might serve as a pick me up instead. Just a spirit booster, and not a trip to the Caribbean.

And before you say "get some tail", I suggest you read Fug's thread about Sex and Depression. It's not usually a working solution for me. Unless you can suggest a value added girl, and by that I don't mean "she does anal."

Do you have a budget in mind, or are you looking for something free to do?

I'd suggest booking an hour with a beautiful and sweet SP. Get the first orgasm out of the way fast. Then spend some time to just chat with the lady. Cuddle, stroke each others bodies. Nothing exotic. And later, if junior can go another round, go for it. But the physical intimacy will do wonders for your spirit. I'd recommend someone like Roxie at Sassy Angels for this. She is sweet, genuine and mature.

Other than that, for for a long job and let nature's endorphins take care of the rest.

If the weather was warmer, I'd suggest a solo wilderness camping trip. Spending time alone in nature is very grounding and brings healing to your soul.

Maybe you have S.A.D. alot of people get it this time of year. Something that works for me is a trip south, new surroundings a little sun might be just the thing. If thats not possible try a tanning bed, its certainly not the same but I find its helps me

I go to open mics. I play my ass off with different musicians and always leave feeling great. The adulation and kind comments I receive on my playing always lifts me.

Perhaps try volunteering somewhere. Helping others makes you feel good; knowing that you can contribute to improving the world around you.

For something related to here perhaps try a massage. Concentrate more on the experience and don't worry about having to perform.

If you were to give a calendar an enema the hose would go in February. My toughest months are November, for personal reasons and February because it is simply an arsehole.
Cold grey and damp keep me indoors and out of the sunshine my body and soul crave.
If you are at suceptible to SADD the cumulative effects of November to February will leave you blue.Natural light and vitamin D will help.

Go for a long walk, a long drive, pack your guitar and busk in front of the liquor store, anything but indoors drinking your way through the liquor cabinet. Or is that just me?

Go towards the light!

Yeah, it is largely time of year/weather related. The days just seem to be dull, dreary, and long.

Yeah, the last few days once the sun's come out, it's been better. Plus I spent a good (quality wise) half hour on the tread mill jogging which also felt good.

I have been taking about 1000ui of vitamin D for the past week, but so far nothing IMO. Plus my sleep has been off. I just seem to be waking up every few hours, so I'm not getting a good quality sleep. And I hate sleeping pills, as I feel stoned the next day to boot.

Thomas, I have read up a bit on tanning beds. One thing is they don't seem to emit the right spectrum of light to affect SAD. The other being my family has a history of skin cancer. Sister and uncle both has spots on their faces, but were successfully treated. Dad had melanoma, and it spread too far before it was discovered.

There's also a guitar workshop this Sat in Aurora that I think I might attend. If you're interested, go to www.awbf.ca (Aurora Winter Blues Festival)

I was thinking of maybe hitting the AGO or ROM afterwards, but I don't know if that would leave me much time there though. Maybe Ripley's.

Go bowling, name each pin and smile every time you strike one of them.

I say get on a train and go somewhere. Ottawa, Montreal anywhere just away from here. Once there just start walking their downtown stopping in the pubs and restaurants.

If I did that, I'd be researching the local SP talent. Old habits.

I like this. Just buy a ticket and go somewhere. Being in unfamiliar territory will put a new perspective on your situation. Don't need to see A SP if you don't want to.

I am not normally an asshole but I hope this does not come off the wrong way!!!
Please read the entire post before you get the sword out an cut my head off!!

SUCK IT UP BUTTER CUP AND GET A GRI ON YOUR LIFE!!
everyone has the blahs at this time of year!
Its dark when I get up to go to work. Its dark when I come home. No sunlight in the daytime. Its raining. Its snowing.
For God sake man your alive! Life is what you make of it. If you sit and wallow in the doldrums it is depressing. Shit I was getting depressed reading your post
Just stop the wallowing and think about what you want to due. Something you like? Something new you been wanting to try? Someplace you want to go?
Think outside the box!!! Don't know what your budget is so I find it difficult to recommend something but just think positive.
It does not cost a cent to smile. I you got sick family members put them in a car and take them to a place they would enjoy an just watch the smile on heir face. Then look in a mirror.
Hope this helps

DILLIGAF
Bet you got the same smile

Yeah, once you start looking around there's a lot of similar groups/services. The League of Rock in Toronto. The Arts, in Newmarket, hosts an adult jam class. There's also a couple of open mic nights around here, but I'm currently too selfconcious to get up there.

I'm just looking for relatively budget friendly things to do.

How about picking up a mid level lego set? Putting it together will focus your mind and the sense of achievement at the end is great. Of course if you leave it too long the sense of disappointment will haunt you. I have a 1000+ set and a 3000+ set that I will likely never finIsh much less start. There's 400 bucks just sitting in my closet!

If you like animals, you could volunteer at a shelter and walk their dogs, or volunteer at a food bank. Giving of yourself to other beings can make you feel better about life in general.
