To truly cook with cast iron you season the pan with oil or fat and cook it off in an oven at 425F or so for an hour
Wipe the excess oil from it.
Traditionally cast iron is not washed it is rather wiped clean. This is takes on the flavor of everything cooked in it.
The only way for for food to absorb the iron is to heat the pan to near its melting point of 2800F.
That would pretty much so ruin most food.
Aluminum on the other hand will melt at 1220F (give or take) so heating it to 450 degrees will cause a slight warping in the pan.......That is to say it can destroy uniform alignment of the molecules and the pan will begin to loose its shape.
