I'm surprised Mal lasted as long as he did with his stance on transgender folks considering the obvious advertiser on this board who has a niche carved out for transgender sex workers.

This being said, I'm with MM in believing folks should be allowed to speak their mind and others need to stop being so thin skinned. If I were a sex worker and I was offended by Mal, I would use his posts as part of my screening process, in other words it is better to know what people really believe.

Oh well, back to lurking....boredom once again.

This has nothing to do with being thin skinned or free speech. It is a shame you see it that way. Hate speech isn't tolerated for a reason, globally, here it should be no different. When someone takes a stand to degrade, insult, stigmatize and does so continually it becomes intolerable and no one should ignore it, they should want it stopped.Especially when it is spewed so vehemently. You should also worry and wonder about the person spewing it, are they dangerous, sane, troublesome,motivated by an agenda?
As far as you mentioning sex workers being offended by him.... there are also hobbyists in this thread and on this board who are also offended, and yet you quoted me, lol. Interesting Jessie

I don't believe Mal ever met these levels of dangerous behavior. The threads could have been great discussions if all would have debated in an non emotional manner.

It's the same on the work floor. Nothing is more annoying working with someone who makes everyone else feel like they have to walk on egg shells around them because they get offended at the slightest off the cuff remark.

People are people and everyone has a belief and although some may keep it to themselves trust me, those are the ones we should worry about, not the people who show you exactly what is on their mind.

There are comments made about Republicans, Conservatives, Police, Caucasians and others that I'm sure could be just as offensive as those that MAL made about gender equality and such.


There is that saying that "I don't support what that person says, but I damned sure support their freedom to say it".

Yes there are Primo, but others saying and doing hateful things, doesn't justify another . There were at least a couple of comments Mal made concerning this industry and those in it that were far more hateful than his normal rhetoric , they were quickly removed. Had any of you read them I'm sure your opinion might be changed. Something was definitely amiss there. As far as two sides? Please enlighten me to the "other side" It's apparently your opinion that I miss it often
If everyone believed they had a right to speak as they felt and there was no difference between "freedom of speech" and "hate speech", then the usage of such words like the"N" word, the "f" word, and other words that have been deemed hateful and intolerable and not free to speak would still be freely used without protest. They after all, are for some, as distasteful as I find them, alright to use and thought of as appropriate. There is a line that is drawn often to determine which is hateful speech and speech which we should be able to use, apparently those that run this board decided. I accept and appreciate their decision. You don't, so perhaps you should take your points to them, not I. Since I have no effect on what can or cannot be said on this board. I can comment. The mods will determine when it is too much. Just as they've done with Mal.

The standards of this board and what you need to do to get banned are honestly about the best in the country. Other places, you get banned for pointing out that water is wet or posting a bad review of the mods girlfriend. MAL spewed a bunch of vile nastiness that went well beyond freedom of speech. I for one am not sad to see him gone, and have faith that the mods/admin here are more than capable of making that call. it's a private board, not an open democracy after all, the board owner makes the rules, the mods enforce them. Time will tell if it was a temporary or permanent ban.

As others said, there's free speech, and controvertiality, and then there's his aggressive and passive-aggressive trolling. A perfect example was his thread about rape.

For those of you who think his "contribution" to the board was not that bad: His behaviour actively alienated Companions from the board. I have this on first-hand accounts. When all the other boards spew this sexist, misogynist fecal verbiage daily, HUBGFE was known for being a place where Companions and Clients could interact with civility and respect. MAL, being very visible, made this board unappealing to them. He was given many chances to do better, he failed to take him. Seriously, F that guy.

Canada supports free speech and always has. Unless you are talking about hate, which is a crime under our Criminal Code. As it should be.

There were plenty of vile things he posted. One day he just went outside of what even the generous mods would let him do.

I agree with the posts quoted above.

The type of behaviour that this guy that this thread is about is not an issue of free speech, but an issue of civility. A person can say what is on his/her mind, but have some respect. Defenders of this guy don't seem to realize that he was not expressing his right to free speech, but he was using his right of free speech to troll.

As mentioned by dreamblade, HUBGFE is known for a place of civility and respect. This is what made this board stand out from the others. When the type of behaviour demonstrated by the subject member who is now banned, is allowed to continue, it deteriorated HUBGFE's brand. The lack of respect and civility on this board took away HUBGFE's identity. I had trust in the mods to do the right thing and waited patiently for them to do the right thing. Thanks goodness they did the right thing, because the more that this disrespectful behaviour was tolerated, the less attractive this board was to me.

As unretired said, this board is a private board and not a democracy, therefore the argument of "free speech" is not very relevant. It is a guiding principal, but not the final rule of which this board is ruled by. The members and mods set the tone of a board. At the end of the day, the mods are responsible for setting standards to which this board abides by. I am glad that the mods chose the path that I'm comfortable with.

He was the main reason I stopped reading and posting on here honestly and didn't even know he was banned until a client told me they were glad he was. There's so much negativity and trolling on all boards, it's nice to view a lounge where 1 person isn't constantly taking it over day after day trying to argue that their opinion is the only right one in every topic.

I can answer this one! Everyone kept logging on to check what Mal was up to. Many couldn't resist some of his nonsense and had to post in response. Now he's gone, all are content and no needs to bother but in the end it means a slower site.

I'd rather have the flamboyant posters here, it makes it a fun place to hang around.

This really irks me. People say they won't participate here because of one obnoxious member, then I see some of our members posting and even being Mods on a board whose discussion forum is filled nothing but threads with their members attacking, outing and slandering one another.
