@Primo, in some cases, especially when someone is purposely degrading, insulting and careless towards any of us who sell services, someone has to take a stand, and forget about free speech. This is an industry that is demonized enough, when those within it start how the hell can we expect outsiders to show respect. One can tun away from lots, but not consistent diatribes of escort and industry insults.
There is another board that thrives on that type f crap, keep it there, why anyone would want it here I can't understand, or quite frankly, why it would be wanted anywhere. It saddens me greatly that many of the male contributors here didn't and still don't get the foulness of that person and all he stood for. But then again some can frequent escorts and still have no respect or appreciation for them.

I believe everyone has a right to their opinion and debate makes an interesting forum. Mal although controversial brings a flair and many many many people will think the same way and not say a word.

Having an opinion is one thing, making comments to purposely insult, incite and demean is another, which is what most of his posts were aimed at doing. The latter adds nothing to any board, so if that's what you need to be entertained, well.......that's just sad

You've never participated much here so you're not really impacted by the bullshit, whereas those of us who post every day, are. The real trolls drive more people away rather than attract posters. Without posters, there's nothing to read.

If the owners and mods decide to remove content or members they feel don't portray the spirit of the medium, so be it.

I think the point of the board is to have an enjoyable web location where like minded individuals can exchange and express themselves within the lines of decorum as seen by those who run it.

I find it exciting when there's discussion and expression of different view points, without the need to use insults or disparaging comments. Express yourself through your intelligence and not your childish anger. A heated argument is exciting, insults aren't.

That saying was inaccurate. Name calling can hurt deeply.

In order to have a healthy community, whether online or in real life, each member has to be willing to be somewhat unselfish and sacrifice their personal agendas for the good of the community.

I think HUBGFE can tolerate a lot of diversity, but when one member tries to control and saturate every conversation with their own beliefs, especially if those beliefs are offensive (racist, mysoginist, etc.) then the whole community is thrown out of balance.

I actually really enjoyed interacting with MAL when he wasn't deliberately trying to create drama, and am disappointed that he couldn't adapt his behaviour to fit in here.

Granted that the owner of the board has final say in what is permissible. I was discussing the more general idea of free speech. Here in the states it's disintegrating....There was a time when we taught children that "sticks and stones make break your bones, but names will never hurt you". Now, all we hear about is PC and Safe Spaces. It has gotten to where being offended by someone's words is all you need to shut down opposing views.

Not the same thing. You, for example, are offering an opposing view but nobody is lobbying to get you banned. Why? Because you're polite, offer a chance at rebuttal, and keep the conversation going in a constructive manner. MAL did nothing like that. There's a huge difference between dissenting views and hate speech. By permitting his posts to go on, the board was giving the impression those views are echoed by this community, which would not be something I would want to be part of.

He's free to spew his shit, but not here. That's not curtailing free speech, that's just having standards. He's not going to jail for his words, that's the definition of free speech. It's something you people born here sometimes have trouble understanding. Try saying something against the official rhetoric in an Eastern Block country back in the 80's, or Russia now, or China.

Lastly, you may want to stop talking about Political Correctness. It's a term used by people too attached to their privilege in order to fail showing empathy for those affected these terms. Words don't hurt? How about Nigger, Kike, Chink, Polack, Paki, or Kraut? Now hearing that said once or twice is no thing, but imagine hearing it every day? Imagine dealing with the attitudes conveyed by these words, every...single...day. Do you still feel Political Correctness is such a bad thing?

Ever notice how nobody get's their panties in a bunch when men are called pigs, whites are called crackers, catholic priests are called pedophiles, etc. Unfounded name-calling happens to all groups yet there only seems to be a few groups who get to complain. Can you not see how in the US and probably around the world, some groups are being given a pass while others are not? How is that just and or fair? I very much dislike the way some people are using PCness to try to control debate ala Saul Alinsky. He suggested how controlling the language allowed you to control a debate. Look at it's use in most of the issues going on right now. Can you be a proud Caucasian American the way that an African American can be proud of his race/culture? Can a man have complaints about sexual discrimination or is he just mysoginistic? That is not open and fair debate either.

I'm truly sorry your experience has been that you are made to feel ashamed of being male, white, and Catholic. But be very careful that this is not mistaking minorities getting access to the same privilege your group has had for centuries. It's called persecution complex. Catholics have been milking that for 1.5 millenia, despite being the dominant group, and slaughtering Pagans using this as justification. Yes, traditional racial inequality is still a thing. Ask your black friends about how they feel when getting stopped by the cops. Same sex couples, trans folk, even people who just follow alternate spiritual paths are denied the same rights you have enjoyed all your life. Rape is still a thing that happens to 1 in 3 women (something MAL had much to say about, and had he been in the room with me, I'd have punched him for). Catholic priests HAVE enjoyed the freedom to be pedophiles, with little sanction save being relocated in the most extreme cases. So maybe they're not all pedophiles, but they're been part of a system that doesn't discourage that behaviour.

The point is that how I'm understanding what you're saying, and there are vocal groups advocating all whites are racist, and PIV is rape, etc... But these groups are small, despite their loudness. Are you sure you're not just feeding into a confirmation bias? Are you personally made to feel ashamed of being a white man, you're not projecting yourself onto some anecdotal person you read about in an article?

A lot of good points made here. But at the end of the day, MAL was purposely being offensive for the sake of being offensive. You could tell because sometimes he actually sounded normal. He wanted to create dissention here, and he purposely offended people to get a rise out of them. For that, he was banned (I think). He had great taste in women and cars though. If only he could have left it at that.

I think he's back. Anyone else get that sense?

Primo, as much as I like you Dreamblade is right and has brilliantly explained all points, there is nothing he's said that could be argued or challenged. Intelligence and understanding certainly are attractive traits @ERecTile, I haven't noticed. I can't understand why someone would want to come back to where they were banned from, but then again, we're not talking about someone normal.

MAL, MSC, BITO and others are trolls: they are here to post comments that get a reaction, and they revel in the attention. I have no issues with most of their posts, even when they are somewhat inflamatory, but when they start getting abusive or overly insulting of women or any other group, they need to be cautioned and then contained if they do not behave.

I support free speech, but hate speech is banned in Canada for a good reason. This board is not overly censorial, which is one reason I like it and stay, but the mods and owners do the right thing by curtailing people when they go too far.
