So the other day I went to my local bakery and the baker was having problems. He had a leaky copper pipe leading to his sink in the bakery.

He said " you know about these things, I've been trying to re-solder it for 2 hrs and grrrr".

I took a look and he didn't have any flux on it and was using an old propane torch. I said "go to home depot, buy the one with the yellow canister, and get some flux. Put some flux on it, heat the joint up all the way around, and you'll be good to go". I gave him my number if he had problems.

So he called me up an hour or so later and couldn't do it. I popped over and took care of it in about 20 minutes.

he wanted to give me a pie or something for my trouble. I said Ach, don't worry about it. It's a part of the reason I moved up here, helping people out like this...

Backstory: My atf is oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I asked why they never made any and he said "they don't sell, just the oatmeal raison ones".

So I go in today to get some of their most awesome french bread and what is sitting there waiting for me? 2 dozen oatmeal chocolate chip cookies!!

His wife was behind the counter and I said to her "this is awesome, you need anything else done? I mean, how many plumbers do you know who work for cookies? lol.....

Depends on whose "cookie" it is I suppose! :)

You had better send Revenue Canada about 6 of those cookies, otherwise they might report that you are working via a barter system to avoid paying taxes.

Cool story, it feels good to help someone - when it's appreciated it's even better. :great:

It's nice to know people are still like that somewhere in the world! :) thanks for sharing the story tboy

Sorry, no cookies for you peace...they're too damn good!

The wife? umm no....but she does have a very cute daughter *eg*.....(and for the record she's in college so it's not like I'm a big perv lol).

Yeah, that's the beauty about living here, people just help one another. About a month ago I came home to find my neighbour snow blowing my drive.....he said he was bored so.....then he thought he heard me spinning my wheels and thought I was stuck so popped over to see if I needed a hand.

That's just how people are here....the thing is, I helped people in the city like this but I got the feeling that they thought I was after something. Specially the women I helped....they just don't realize that someone could lend a hand, or do something nice, just for the sake of doing something nice.

My neighbor cut my lawn all last summer when my appendix blew out.

Good people around here.

Glad you all appreciated the telling....

Just a head's up: the cookies are freaking awesome lol......

...i still think you should share those cookies if u want to be considered as one of those good helpful considerate people..lol

ps. I swear I remember Toronto used to be like that....now...its a rarity...yet there are still good people out there..

Some parts still are like that, on my street we still help each other out. last snow storm I saw my neighbour shoveling his driveway so I walked over and asked him why. Turns out his snowblower had broken down, so I did his driveway and then cause I was there I did the guy next door. As I was bringing my snowblower home I saw my next door neighbour doing the neighbours on the other side.

At my last house, one day in July I got up to see who was at the door. Turned out it was the old guy who lived across the street. He gave me an envelope with a thank you card in it. When I looked puzzled he said. I just found out the other day that it was you who cleared my driveway last Feb.

The point is.... it's still in us, this desire to be a nice person. I think that we get caught up in our own lives and forget that we are supposed to help others out. When you see someone that needs help do it, you'll feel good.

You're right s-man, and the thing is, when someone sees you doing something good, that gives them the idea that it is ok to do something good....kind of like "pay it forward". Kind of the opposite of trash, if ONE person throws something on the ground, it seems like that tells others that it's ok to do the same......

I'm trying to remember the details but they escape me. There was this SWF a while ago and I offerred to do something for her. She was all "why why WHY", all adversarial like. I finally said "fuck it, it ain't worth the trouble".

And yeah, I remember toronto being like this Peace, it was a LONG time ago.....

Pay it Forward is ALWAYS a good policy. :great:

I used to do 4 driveways on my street, (mine and 3 others)... I was the only one with a snow blower when we moved here 10 years ago. Now we all have our own snow blowers and we often end up doing our driveways at the same time.
