Parking Invoice - Do I need to pay?

Anybody have any experience with this?
I parked in a hotel lot that had one of those pay stations where you pay and put the ticket on your dash... but I didn't and my excuse doesn't really matter.

So I come out and find this "ticket". It says "Parking Invoice", has the date, time, address, my license plate, make, model, etc. Says on the back that if unpaid, it will be sent to collection agency/credit bureau.

The company that issued the "ticket" is actually called Parking Invoice.

So, should I pay or ignore.

Generally it depends if you can put up with a few harassing phone calls. I don't believe legally they can do anything. I would wait and see what some of the legal experts here say.

I believe they can go after you just like if you would park in a city street.

They only have your plate info and don't think MTO will give out personal info. However if you park there again with or without paying you may find it towed.

Completely WRONG, the MTO database is readily accessible by lawyers, P.I.'s , collection agencies. Getting a name and address from a plate is child's work. The MTO sells its database to direct marketing companies.

Now to the OP (despite him calling me a drunken bum, {I resemble that remark}).

How much is the ticket?
Is it worth the agro?

They can send it to collections so that is shows on your credit report, and that is their trump card.

After that you can fight, you can send a REGISTERED letter to the collection agency, or the parking company ( I bet it is Impark, they are assholes) saying you dispute the INVOICE, take me to small claims court.

I doubt that they will given the costs, but is all this worth it ?

If its $30 pay it, if its $300 send them a letter (ask and I'll give you the exact statute and wording, can't remember in my drunken haze off the top of my head) saying sue me.

Then again, they may do nothing more and just see if you pay the INVOICE based on the threat.

The limitation period in Ontario (for this, it can vary for other matters) is two years, so you are free and clear.

I was thinking the same thing. It's $35 if paid within 7 days and double after that. It's not worth the hassle, so I guess I'll just pay it. That's probably what they're banking on, so they win. C'est la vie.

1] I was an accurate and truthful statement, at least the former (drunken), I dispute the latter (bum).

2] It was to do with the affections of Kristen (formerly of Roommates), indeed all is fair in love and war.
