A muslim who raped a 13-year-old girl he groomed on Facebook has been spared a prison sentence after a judge heard he went to an Islamic faith school where he was taught that women are worthless.

Adil Rashid, 18, claimed he was not aware that it was illegal for him to have sex with the girl because his education left him ignorant of British law.
Yesterday Judge Michael Stokes handed Rashid a suspended sentence, saying: ‘Although chronologically 18, it is quite clear from the reports that you are very naive and immature when it comes to sexual matters.’

Earlier Nottingham Crown Court heard that such crimes usually result in a four to seven-year prison sentence.
But the judge said that because Rashid was ‘passive’ and ‘lacking assertiveness’, sending him to jail might cause him ‘more damage than good’.
Rashid, from Birmingham, admitted he had sex with the girl, saying he had been ‘tempted by her’ after they met online.

They initially exchanged messages on Facebook before sending texts and chatting on the phone over a two-month period.
They then met up in Nottingham, where Rashid had booked a room at a Premier Inn.

The girl told police they stayed at the hotel for two hours and had sex after Rashid went to the bathroom and emerged wearing a condom.

ok, to be the voice of reason in this thread.....

1) it is a suspended sentence, not a not guilty verdict. There is a big differene
2) did he actually rape her? Doesn't sound like it. SOunds like it was consentual.
3) WOmen mature much faster than men and from the sounds of it, this guy was 18 going on 12.
4) as the judge stated, a prison term would do more harm than good. We don't know the whole story but it is possible the judge is going to order councilling and re-education so that maybe he can learn why what he did was wrong.

Now I would also be aghast at the judgement if the guy was 22 or older and was brought up in a normal household. From the sounds of it the guy was retarded (for lack of a better word) in a maturity sense due to his upbringing.

Now many will say I"m out to lunch but when I was 18 I dated a 15 yr old and didn't know for three or four months that she was 15. I inquired as to her age (buddy's sister) and got "she's a couple years younger" so that would mean she was 16.....but she wasn't.......yes, we had sex. Did I rape her? no. Not even close. Did I deserve a prison term? Nope.

Now yeah, she was 13, but thinking like a very naive 18 yr old and seeing what 13 yr olds look dress and act like these days, I think a prison sentence is uncalled for.

On the flipside (and I use this example often) if the girl was 18 and the guy was 13 would we be having this discussion?

Ok, he didn't go to jail but he did get sentenced to 7 months in youth custody (which I assume is like what we call reform school). He also gets 2 yrs probation plus supervised and councilling.

This is one thing conveniently left out:

Ok, where is the law to protect boys? So what the law is stating is that it is illegal for a 13 yr old girl to have sex but if she does, they will only charge the boy involved......what kind of fucked up situation is that?
