Tboy, yes, please read transient's post to understand how your privilege blinds you to the reality of what LGBT people face. Read about the scout troupe leader fired from her job, the principal, or the nurse's aid fired for being gay (this is why I posted those specific jobs, maybe I was being too subtle), read about the opposition to two people being able to marry and enjoy the same spousal rights, despite paying taxes and participating in the political process as straight people do.
As for your examples of being treated like shit by one or two exes' family? try feeling that every relationship you have, the looks of disgust people give you on the street because you kiss another man. How about the way you referred to your trans co-worker as "she/he" instead of the gender they identify as? The issues are still there. They are still practiced, sometimes passively, sometimes aggressively.
As a poly man, I am going, because my rights to whom I want to fuck/date/marry are a long way to be recognised, and if it can be protested by partying, then it suits the Montrealer in me just fine.
