The Vegan thread

There is absolutely no clinical evidence vegan, vegetarian, or any other diet is better than being omnivores, which is what we've been for millennia. Sure, avoiding red meat means you can avoid some issues with meat, but there's all kinds of problems with veggies and fruit, too!

Insects, which inhabit all veggies and fruit. Chemicals from the fertilizer (even organic stuff, which uses organic fertilizer made from...wait for it...chemicals). Urine and excrement (where do you think birds and mice go?). Just to start...

I read them, they scared the shit out of me. I cut back on animal products. I have a cousin who primarily eats meat, can't live without it. She's in great shape. She also recently found out she might have cancer. Never smoked or drank. Works out religiously. It's just scary, especially with the shit that goes into the food the animals eat while they are alive, we eat the animal, we eat what they've eaten.

Nutty Quinoa Salad.
Ingredients
2 cups quinoa
4 cups water
1 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup sesame oil
6 scallions, sliced
1 cup roasted peanuts
1 cup mandarin oranges, peeled and sectioned
4 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
4 tablespoons orange zest, grated
Instructions
Combine the quinoa and water in a large saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer 10 minutes. Then add the raisins and continue cooking until all the liquid has evaporated, 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and spread the mixture out on a baking sheet. Let it cool completely. In a large bowl, combine the quinoa and raisins with all the remaining ingredients. Toss gently and serve.

Sounds too healthy for me :biggrin2:
