The Vegan thread

Veganism at it's core is about reducing suffering and practicing empathy towards other sentient beings. Animal agriculture is destroying the environment at a horrifying rate. And anyone who can watch slaughterhouse videos without being emotionally moved at all frightens me.

Preach!!! Thank you and I couldn't agree more!

to Bosco-sorry can't agree with your post this may explain why- https://greatist.com/health/complete-vegetarian-proteins
there are many foods that provide vegans/vegetarians with complete proteins and all other important nutrients and most of those foods meat eaters don't consume, so they are missing important nutrients. Most North Americans are eating a diet filled with preserved, fast, unhealthy fat filled and salt ladened foods. So if any diet should be criticized it should be that one. Most meat consumed and bought in local groceries is in fact unhealthy, it's raised in unhealthy ways and slaughtered in unhealthy ways, I have a relative who worked in that industry and who is now a vet and a meat eater who'll attest to that as will some of my relatives who farmed in the past. The food of today is nothing compared to what our parents and grandparents ate.
But......when did it become wrong to be more humane? If vegans/vegetarians portray themselves to be superior, then what the heck do meat eaters portray themselves to be....my experience... history buffs..... as they ALWAYS come up with comments like our ancestors ate meat,(( well they also ate each other, decapitated, hung, chopped up, one another, so ...should we?) our teeth are made for eating meat( not really, those teeth they refer to are needed for grinding nuts, seed and crunching apples, carrots, and other healthy foods),https://freefromharm.org/photo-galleries/9-reasons-your-canine-teeth-dont-make-you-a-meat-eater/ animals were put here for our use and consumption,( that's religion telling people that, it's a way to justify hurting other sentient beings )so who is being self righteous and know it alls?
I think vegans rock, anyone that can give up so much ( they don't use or eat ANY animal products) a true vegan won't have any leather clothing, car seats, shoes, etc, nor wool clothes, mohair, fur, down, cashmere, etc,or eat any animal products, meat, fish, dairy) for the sake of suffering is in my books deserving of superiority.
To end...eat what you want ..if you can live with knowing the suffering that was endured simply for those few seconds of delicious in your mouth then so be it, but don't condemn those who can't. In the end we'll all get our come up ins for what eat ingest, our individual health reports will be testaments to that:)

/\ Yes most processed food ads make promises about taste and ignore nutritional value.

Vegans aren’t better athletes, but Diaz proves they can be just as good

UFC 196 has brought a fun debate forward; did Nate Diaz beat Conor McGregor because he’s vegan? With many looking at Diaz’s diet before, during, and following the fight, I’m not surprised that vegans have stepped up to claim his victory. However, I think it’s important that we recognize that eating a plant-based diet, like Diaz has, doesn’t make you a better athlete, but that it should be celebrated for showing us that you can be just as good an athlete while vegan. For everyone who thinks animal protein is the only way to the belt, podium, or medal, Diaz can be an example that it’s not.

Entire article is too long to post but worth reading.
