Coors Light Iced T is making a hit on Twitter.
Not for the drink’s taste, but for its acronym.
Put the first letter of each word together and what you’ve got is the vernacular for clitoris.
But the beermaker assures it wasn’t a cheeky move on its part to tickle people’s taste-buds.
“It wasn’t a mistake and not intentional,” insisted Molson Coors Canada spokesman Forest Kenney.
“We’re seeing the college humour crowd is having fun using it in places like Twitter, but the goal for us was to be as descriptive as possible, to call the product what it was,” Kenney said Monday. “It’s not something you’ll see as part of our marketing.”
And the tea beer name certainly has made people giggle online when they’ve put “CL” and “IT” together.
The Montreal-brewed tea beer launched in the beginning of April and is exclusive to Canada. Molson Coors hopes to have 1 million people sampling the product by the end of the summer.
Kenney said there hasn’t been a noticeable spike in sales despite the Twitter buzz.
“A lot of time, people stumble upon it and get their little giggle,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it’s added to (sales), it might give people a bit of added talk value from what we’re seeing with the way people are referencing it. I think the product speaks for itself.”
