Brave dog. Noticed how he was looking to his left and right when he was dragging the dog?. Not too many humans have the courage of this animal. Kudos to him.

Dog owner's worst nightmare.

Dog owner's worst nightmare.

As most of you know I am a dog lover. Christ, I rather spend spend quiet nights with my family and mutt than to be in conversation with 90% of our acquaintances. Reading this makes me want to hire a private detective from my own money to find the cruel assholes.

What kind of people would do such mean things. Feel sorry for the family.

One minute, Mariam Arian’s family dog was running energetically around their Brampton backyard. The next, the beloved Yorkshire Terrier was bleeding profusely, dying in her husband’s arms. Just after 9 p.m. Friday, Mickey, the Arians’ 2-year-old companion, was shot behind their Peel Village home in what police are calling a “random and alarming” attack.

Arian’s husband and daughter were at home watching TV when they heard a loud bang come from the backyard. When they stepped outside, the dog ran over to them and collapsed at their feet. That’s when Arian got a horrifying call from her 6-year-old daughter, Sarah.

“She was saying ‘Mommy you have to come home right away. Something has happened to Mickey. He was shot, he is bleeding everywhere,’” says Arian.
Moments later, Arian arrived home to find her husband cradling the dog in his arms. The couple rushed him to an emergency veterinary clinic — their tiny, 7-pound dog bled all over the car.

X-rays revealed a bullet had shot through Mickey’s lung, causing grave internal injuries. Veterinarians told Arian it would be too difficult to save his life.
“They said it would be best to put him down,” she said, her voice cracking. “It is just so shocking.” Peel police believe the dog was shot by a small-calibre weapon, likely a handgun, says Const. Adam Minnion.

The shooting appears to have been an isolated attack. Police have had no other reports of similar incidents, and there’s no need for neighbours to lock up their pets, Minnion said. Still, investigators are trying to find out what would prompt such a crime.

“Why it happened is a bit of a mystery right now. It seems rather unprovoked,” Minnion said. The family agrees, saying they have had no dispute with neighbours and cannot fathom why someone would shoot their dog.

For Arian, who is currently home on disability, Mickey was a companion during lonely days at home; for her young daughter, a constant playmate.

I am also a dog lover and would love to get my hands on the culprits just to teach them what slow pain feels.

two schools of thought on this

The first is that it was kids.

The second is that it was a warning.

You missed the third:

Have they had problems with it barking and someone complaining about it?

I know yorkies can be noisy little fuckers, a friend had one on his boat and it barked 24/7.......

I'm not saying it deserves/d to be shot, but there have been times when I lived in the city if I had had a gun, I would have been severely tempted to use it. Owners just don't realize how utterly annoying a barking dog can be to their neighbours. In fact, there is a section specifically detailing this in the by-laws. I was off sick with the flu one day and backed onto an alley between two buildings. Every little sound would echo up and down the alley. Well at 10 am this dog on the first floor started barking. It carried on non-stop for 2 hrs until I finally dragged myself out of bed and took the elevator to the first floor. I knocked on the door for a good 5 minutes until finally the owner answered. I said "do you realize your dog has been barking for 2 hrs"?/ "oh yeah, I know..." so I said "shut it the fuck up"!!!

I'm not saying this IS what happened here, but I have a hard time believing that someone would just think "hey, I'm want to shoot a dog" and just go out and find any dog and shoot it....1) how'd the shooter get into the backyard? 2) Do they back onto an empty field? 3) did the shooter access their backyard via a neighbour's backyard? 4) Was it a neighbour?

There's a couple of indicators here: 9 pm and running around energetically. I know yorkies and if it was running around energetically it was barking. Could have been chasing squirrels, could have been chasing birds, I have a friend who has a scotty dog and she showed me how "funny" he was when there were birds or squirrels in the back yard. She would let him out and he'd go nuts barking and running around after them like a mad man. She thought it was so cute. Until I said to her: you're probably driving your neighbours nuts with all the racket. She said "so"??? A prime indicator to me that she is an inconsiderate dog owner.....

This could be totally random and totally unprovoked, but I suspect it isn't.....

I agree with your analysis but shooting a dog for barking still makes the shooter a person with no intelligence. I myself have had my share of noisy barking dogs. No never been tempted to shoot the dog if I had a gun.

My thoughts were of doing the neighbor's wife as revenge.

I agree but something you have to realize: everyone has a breaking point. In my instance I was working mega hours, trying to get some sleep, and not only did I have the one on the first floor to deal with, but one down the hall, plus one across the road would start at 10 pm and go until 3 am EVERY night. Like the Bruce Cockburn song said "if I had a rocket launcher....."...lol.....

Like I said, I don't know if this is the case here, but I can see how someone could get to the point and be tempted now couple that with the readily available firearm, maybe some alcohol, and (I hate to say this) it being Brampton and all.....hell, people shoot people for looking at them the wrong way.....

Imagine if the little girl was playing with the dog and she took the shot .

yeah that would be horrible, but the whoever did it must have been a good shot, he hit a small yorkie running around energetically......at dusk no less.....
