Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

What she said.

A woman said she felt fat-shamed when she was unable to ride Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida.

Angel Morales said she asked workers if she could ride the ride bench with one fewer person so that she wouldn’t make anyone sitting beside her feel uncomfortable.

Morales said she felt humiliated when employees declined her request.

The theme park doesn’t have weight restrictions, so Morales said she didn’t know she couldn’t go on the ride until she was about to board it.

Morales said she bought annual passes to the park last year and couldn’t wait to check out The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

“I couldn’t fit on any of the Harry Potter rides because of my weight,” she said. “I did a lot of bag-holding in Diagon Alley and that kind of thing.”

She had hoped to ride the King Kong attraction, because its seat is a bench without a safety bar, but when she got to the front of the line, she told her daughters that she didn’t think they’d fit without making others uncomfortable, Morales said.
A man waiting in line overheard their conversation and offered to wait for the next available ride so Morales could ride with her daughters.

During another trip to the park, Morales said she tried to spare herself from further embarrassment by asking workers if one fewer person could ride in her row.

She said they wouldn’t allow it, because they said they have to “push for capacity.”

“It’s somewhat humiliating to have to ask for an accommodation because of one’s weight — that you have to put yourself out there and kind of beg to be able to ride and embarrass yourself because of weight,” Morales said.

She filed a discrimination complaint with the Florida Commission on Human Relations. She said overweight people should be a protected class.

Seriously, when is this going to end?. This politically correct stuff that all companies, corporations and people in general is just getting out of hand.

Did any of you even bother to watch the video? She wasn't being unreasonable at all. She also wasn't a 500lb whale either.

If it's one thing hobbyists on HUBGFE enjoy doing it's twisting every real issue into "LOL politically correct agenda" or "LOL social justice warriors" as if they consider their biggest enemies to be the marginalized individuals who dares to make a voice for themselves.

Seriously like ONE OUT OF EVERY FUCKING 3 POSTS is about a whinefest about "oh wahh wahh gay/trans/women/PoC/disabled/fat people claiming to be oppressed wahh wahh". Not ONE thread about how fatshaming, racism, sexism, ablism, heterosexism, etc. is a problem in this society that needs to be addressed.

Jesus Christ, would you all prefer to live in the 1800s where you wouldn't hear a single thing about this? During a time where you don't ever have to worry about a fat/obese woman speaking up asserting her basic rights as a human being because fat women at that time were housewives who could not vote.

She also wasn't a 500lb whale either.

So, apparently the social justice rule is that fat shaming and discrimination is only permissible once you hit 500lbs and officially attain 'fat whale' status. Nice. :LMAO:

IMHO, it is possible to lose a lot of weight. I watched this move called "eating you alive."

Eating You Alive™

So this guy, in the movie Milan Ross, lost over 300 LBS. going on a vegan plant based diet. He was a total success story. Now, he's accused of killing his wife and 2 kids. Maybe, he would have been better off staying fat??

My point is she wasn't being unreasonable. Watch the vid, she was a sweetheart about it all.

Yes because has a bigger girl I am really gonna slam ANYONE for their weight. Moron.

My opinion.

My opinion.

Nice rant, anger boy. Do some research first next time....

Obesity Is Now A Disease, American Medical Association Decides

Have to disagree with you here demien, declaring something a disease, is simply justifying those who do not make an effort to be responsible, and I give a shit what association declared.

Maybe we can make being irresponsible a disease, that would make a lot of people happy, well at least losers.

Disease": a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms"

Unless a person has a glandular problem, the "part(s)" that would cause some one to become obese, would be their "brain", which would make that a psychological issue.

So that would mean the irresponsible obese, has a mental issue, not a disease.

All counter arguments are welcome, except those with childish or otherwise insults, will not get a response.

Correcting incorrect terms I may have used, appreciated.

A reason the AMA decided in favor of obesity as a disease is that it will decrease the stigma of obesity that comes from the widespread thought that it is just the outcome of excessive eating and not enough exercise. Doctors say some people do not have complete control of their weight.''

Yeah in my experience in the weight loss industry the overwhelming majority of people do have control of their weight. But the degree seems to vary from individual to individual.

Of course the AMA can make all those people who lets face it, don't really give a crap, a nice little tidy excuse for being irresponsible with their health. Because lets face it, it's just a disease right? LOL.

Bosco, I don't really trust the AMA. Reason being, Doctors get very little nutrition training in medical school.

It's taken me a yr to lose 25 LBS, and I did it all on my own. I still have more weight to lose, but it's a good start for me.

I did it by following the starch solution, by Dr. John McDougall, which I read about on the internet. As first my family doc didn't approve of it, but due to this diet, I was able to get off my blood pressure pill as well.

It's easy.

The only person who has any right telling somebody that their body appearance "is a disease" is the person owning the body. If you don't own their body, you have no right to dictate that they need to lose/gain weight or change their appearance just to satisfy your own expectations. Because in the end, their bodies are not designed for YOU; rather they are designed for THEMSELVES.

I'm not fat but I'm the complete opposite; I'm very very skinny and people who look at me assume that I'm malnourished and that I need to eat more. It angers me to hear somebody dare to tell me what I should do to my body just to satisfy their image of me.

Not sure about now but as of 10 years ago you are correct they did not take any courses in nutrition. Unbelievable when you really consider it.

Let me offer you my congratulations on making the necessary steps to getting back what is your right as a human being. Your health.

Your body sounds like it is already thanking you.

Study: Overweight People Live Longer

Okay they are talking about being slightly overweight leading to longer mortality. But obese people and people who are under weight don't seem to do so well.

Thanks Bosco. Much appreciated!! It's kind of funny, because my Family Doc, thinks that Dr John McDougall is a quack--LOL

Meanwhile, I've lost 25LBS on Dr. M's diet, and my blood pressure has come down naturally, as well. I'm now off BP pills and cholesterol pills completely. Also, it's a much cheaper way to eat. It's much cheaper to buy beans, potatoes, Rice, peas, pasta, salsa etc.....then it is to buy meat, chicken, fish, milk and cheese.

It's also funny that I really like my family doc, so "we've agreed to disagree", on this diet and lifestyle change I'm on. I also save money on pharmacy prescriptions as well. If I keep following this diet, then I'll have more money to hobby....LMAO
