I hope Reverse doesn't mind me pointing this out, but she did post a gorgeous picture of herself on a C36 thread Transient started. In the event that you do get sticky again, bito, you may wanna send her something nice as compensation :)

I'll look for that, IfYouSeekAmy.

I have six The Gong Show episodes up for you. I'll send you a PM with instructions where and how to get them soon, possibly tonight. Thank you, post and icon.

I guess I missed some fireworks here tonight. I was mainly just writing post #536 to Jessica Rain in here. I don't know the history involved with any of that, so it can't interest me much.

I did see papasmerf was banned, though. He'll be jonsing if he can't post here. He'll have to find something constructive to do with his time. I'm not sure he can handle that much responsibility.

I did a week on ban, Dec 13-20. I didn't try to log in again until the 21st. I could still read the threads I wanted to, so I just got a lot of work done that I had been neglecting.

Bob, the good Cardinal is not answering my calls and I desperately need a new bible because Sunshine burned my last one.

Do you know where I can find one on sale??

Why would anyone buy a Bible, Raiden, ever? Churches have tons of them, and they can't give them away, anymore, literally. They might even pay you, to take one. You have to pay scalpers prices to see a Leafs game since forever, and the same applies to the Raptors, when they're winning, and the food costs fancy restaurant prices for McDonald's.

At Church, however, the place is half empty, even though tickets don't cost anything. There's free food, too, and it's home made. All you have to do is listen to the lecture, the same as those free vacation trips everybody wins by phone every couple of weeks, if you don't block those calls.

The only people who go to Church now are the ones who want to be seen there, and the ones that don't need to be there. That second group is the one who brings the free food for everyone else.

This is the sex trade, Raiden, which traditionally congregates in hotel rooms. Back in the day, every hotel room had at least three amenities: towels and an ash tray, with the hotel's name on them, and a Gideon Bible. The hotel wanted you to steal the towels and ash trays, it was cost effective advertising.

The Gideons wanted you to steal their Bible, so you would have something to read on the toilet, instead of playing an app on your phone, or posting on an Internet forum.

Why do you think The Bible is all in little short paragraphs, that take some time to understand? You're not supposed to read it all in one sitting. Eat some, then give it time to digest, like the food that brought you to the toilet.

Them Gideons should grow with the times, and put free digital Bibles in every public toilet stall, for those people who always need to be doing two things at the same time, and aren't already doing something else, besides taking a dump.

How is Papasmerf going to answer your questions now? I'm sure he'll be back and how are you going to deal with a pissed off smerf?:biggrin2:

I don't believe this is the correct forum to discuss the Bible , especially in a fashion used to degrade people of faith.

Baz, I agree with you. As you know, I am not a religious person, but I do adhere to this: all items of significance to a faith -- any faith --, whether the Bible, Koran, cathedral, or whatever, should not be mocked. To do so shows disrespect and ignorance.

I have papasmerf on Ignore, Analme, so he being on ban is business as usual, he can read me, if he wants to, I don't read him, even if he wants me to, until he does things my way, not his. I have that leverage, because he doesn't write enough things that I want to read.

This is the Ask bobistheowl! thread. I'm bobistheowl. 'Nuff said.

That, Baz, is a perect example of what I said...ignorant and disrespectful.

He's only establishing his territory and I will stand up for what I believe in as well. People should have the right to participate in their own chosen religion without the ridicule cast upon us. I'm far from a bible thumper but I do not take kindly to pot shots. I will adhere to the format of the thread and simply ask-

Bob, do you believe in a super power, a benevolent being which guides you through this life?

I do that on all boards, Jessica Rain, to me it's respectful; you chose your handle, so to me, that's your given name here. Some handles, like mine, are all in lower case, so the bold formatting eliminates a perceived difference in status to different members, based on whether their handle begins with a capital letter, on not. It's always bold in the side panel on the left, for every board I'm on, except one, where it's on top, but also in bold. The board probably puts in it bold for the same reason I do.

It also makes it easier to find someone's handle in a longer post. Handles and keywords stand out, if someone is looking for an excerpt quote, or if they're interested in some, but not all, of the post.

Thank you, that answered my question.

bobistheowl said:
I'm a mod on that board, one of about 45, all appointed, and unpaid, so you don't lose mod status if you aren't there often, so it's kind of like the Canadian Senate, in some respects. They don't have any formatting toolbars, there, so I type the html tags, and usually do that here, too.

It's a board for computer fonts. I feud with two of the other mods on that board, one is a total dick from The Netherlands, who's very knowledgeable about identifying fonts, but very rude with people who ask stupid questions, or poorly worded questions, that require additional questions to find out what they want. He gives good answers to good questions, but likes to heckle people who don't clearly state what they want.

Most of the forum is identifications of the font in use in some posted image containing text, like this:

454874.jpg

And jerseygirl identified that at Feel Script, and posted a download link, five minutes later.

They compete, to see who can identify the fonts fastest, and there's a top 30 posted for the current month, and for all-time, with the percentage of the total shown for each. jerseygirl has 447, (25%), in the last 30 days, and next best is over 100 behind. At the bottom are 17 tied for 29th place, with 2. Anybody can play, and the ones that are good often are appointed as mods.

All time, rocamaco will probably never be caught, with 23, 171, (25% share), miles ahead of drf with 6,702, (7%).

rocamaco hasn't been by in a couple of years; he had some tiff with the owner, and left, but he's still a mod, if he wants to come back. #4,

fmontpetit
has been MIA for a couple of years as well, but because of other time commitments, not other boards. He's just not doing boards now.

jerseygirl
is #6, but joined more recently, and is gaining by 100's per month, and could get to #4 by the end of February. She's 85 ahead of koeiekat, but passed him this month, with 206 more than his 239.

I don't know jeseygirl, she's just an identifier, and she doesn't post in the mods forum. She's probably a graphic designer, or identifying fonts is her hobby.

rocamaco and fmontpetit are my solid buds from years back, but they're not around.

drf
and koeiekat are the mods I feud with. drf, from France, thinks he's king shit, because he's #1 among people currently playing, and koeiekat is a long time nemesis of mine, from a different board, originally. He likes to mix it up with me a bit, but I have a better command of English, even though his is very good. He's really good at identifying, and picking on weak and stupid people, and I keep him in check.

I was pissed off at drf last year, and posted a huge message in the WingDings picture font, quoting him. If he could identify the font, he'd also have to know the alphabet and punctuation to reproduce it, because I posted a .png. If he took the time to convert the pictures to text, he would have read my message: "Don't fuck with me, bitch, I'm not telling your French ass again!". He probably read it, because the thread was deleted.

I'm probably in 2,000th place, with 17 lifetime, and one this year. I once got eight in one month, just to make the monthly top 20, once. I got easy ones, because Europe was sleeping; just common system fonts, or ones already identified by someone else on the same page, but someone else asked as well. I cherry picked enough of them to get on the monthly list once. Here's a couple of my answers from that board:

This one, written half way through writing this HUBGFE post:

"Dan": "...I typically make fonts with only a single case, so I will keep xxxxx in mind for fonts with multiple cases."

koeiekat: "Only single case type? Why?"

<my mod handle>: "That probably means an all caps alphabet character map, two licenses, or an e e cummings handwriting font. One of those three, probably the first."

And another, a favorite of mine, from last year:

stnfabian: "What is the best way to give recognition to the creator? I wish to do so and ask for permission."

"That varies from Faith to Faith. The sacrifice by fire of an unblemished kid goat, calf, or suckling pig, while considered old school by most, is surprisingly well received, and may lead to Divine Favour within a fortnight, particularly in battle. The key word is unblemished; examine your sacrificial animal closely, and make sure it has not been surgically altered, (ie: no gelded, spayed/ neutered, animals, should ever be used, only breeding stock).

While illegal in most countries, the sacrifice of an unweaned infant child will still appease most Elder Gods, especially if you are requesting permission to perform an act deemed illegal, blasphemous, or sacrilegious under more than one criminal or religious code."

In all cases, you should be kneeling, or in some recognizable posture of submission. I think that's the only universal requirement.

I hope this helps!

~bito" '

So, it's the same thing I do here, but for a fonts audience. I answer a question that interests me, either briefly, long and detailed, obtusely, or I heckle a guy, too, every so often, but never as part of a group heckling. Sometimes I give a better answer than what the guys from Europe had come up with, then don't go back for a week.

It's like the Bizarro Jerry episode of Seinfeld, where Elaine got new friends, who looked like Jerry, George and Kramer, but they were picky with rules.

There's a counterpart on another board for so many different people, someone with the same personality, but a different pastime. It's actually more of a sausage fest than here, most of the time, but with some intellectual threads, but not many. They have some different emoticons than the ones we have here. It's just mainly guys who are knowledgeable about what other guys have made, but for fonts, instead of Escorts.

I have no idea what to say to all of this, however I appreciate the amount of time it must have taken you to write it.

That's funny!

Ya know, Bob, if you spent less time trying to be a tinpot dictator ("You do things my way or no way") and actually tried to be a useful contributor (there were hints of that when you first joined, before you got on your "this is my thread and only I can post in it" rant) you'd be a useful member. Alas...

No, I think any being powerful enough to have created universes and intelligent life forms would have long since moved on, to make new ones, or do other things, besides babysit his adult children. The idea that such a being would keep tabs on everyone was delegated to Santa Claus.

People who create things usually don't handle the maintenance of their creations. If you have a problem with a box of pancakes, Aunt Jemima doesn't come over and fix it for you, someone at the call center in Halifax does, in her name, and on her behalf. She isn't even real; she's just an avatar on the package, painted by an artist.

Religious rules are mostly common sense, from before sense was common. Many people feel a need to believe that they matter to some super powered being, because they can't grasp the concept of their own insignificance, in the larger scheme of things.

If I had an ant farm, it would matter, if some fungus killed all of them.

I wouldn't care about each ant, or about how many ants were in the farm, or which ants were in there. I'd only care that there are some ants, and enough of them, that the ant farm would be interesting to look at, when I'm baked.

Jessica Rain, your question was answered in the first part. The rest was just what I wanted to write, in addition.

The other part may or may not have interested you, but if it didn't, it may have interested someone else, maybe not this morning, maybe next June, maybe never. I don't know. I wanted to write it, and it's there if someone wants to read it.

You wrote to me, and I gave you a long reply, largely because of your avatar picture. If I had breasts like yours, I would be ashamed of myself, because they would look out of place, on a man, unless a woman such as yourself was on top of him. Attached to his own chest, they would be indicative of gross obesity.

I don't recall having spoken with you previously, so I give you enough information for you to decide if reading other posts I've made is a good investment for your time.

So you've never experienced a miracle, someone witnessing the after life and coming back, something science cannot account for?
