A Toronto Police officer has been arrested and charged for failing to stop at a scene of an accident.
On March 17, police were called to a collision at Adelaide St. East, near Jarvis St. There were no injuries reported, but the driver of one of the vehicles drove away.
Const. Brandon Polak, 35, was arrested in relation to the incident. He has been in the service for 13 years and works with the Drug Squad. He was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence.
Polak is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

Two Peel Regional Police officers suffered “serious” injuries after a violent dispute that left a civilian dead in Mississauga late Friday.
One of the officers was shot in the leg and the other was stabbed during the confrontation which took place around 11 p.m., Const. George Tudos said.
"As a result of an interaction, shots were fired, and after the shots were fired, two of our officers were injured,” Tudos said. “They have serious injuries ... We also have a deceased civilian.”
He would not say why police were initially called to the scene.
Four people, including the two officers, were reportedly taken to hospital.

“In all my years of policing, I’ve never heard of anybody doing this before,” Ontario Provincial Police Const. Kevin O’Neil told .
The surprising arrest on Tuesday of 55-year-old Donald Dummer, a lifelong Essex-area resident now facing an impaired driving charge, made national headlines.
Dummer was baffled when his name ended up in the news. The unexpected media attention had him feeling exasperated this week, but he agreed to speak to the Toronto Star about the call he made and why he feels it was the right thing to do.
Where were you when you decided to report yourself to police?
I was in my car on my way to Leamington. It was around 10 a.m. I was probably about 10 miles from my house, on Highway 3.
What made you decide to make the call?
Well, I’ve been dealing with alcohol addiction forever. I was on my way to a welfare appointment, extremely depressed. I drank the night before and I finally just decided I had to hit the bottom of the barrel and go get some help. So I pulled over and I made the call.
What did that conversation go like with the 911 operator?
I just said I have an alcohol problem, I’ll probably blow over (the legal limit) and I’m pulling over and giving up. And the OPP showed up and they were perfectly fine with me. They pulled over behind, I had my four-ways on. I wasn’t belligerent or stumbling around but I did blow over.
How much did you blow over?
I don’t recall. It doesn’t really matter how much, it was over. I was taken into custody and brought to Kingsville OPP station. I spent a few hours in a holding cell and then I was released without bail on a promise to appear.
Had you been drinking that morning?
No, the night before.
Why did you decide to drive if you knew you were impaired?
I got a call at 9 in the morning that I could get into an earlier appointment with welfare — at 10:30 — because I’d been out of work for awhile. And I thought, well, I don’t have a ride to Leamington, so I’ll just drive. And then on the way I just realized this is ridiculous. So I thought instead of driving any further, I’m just gonna call and take whatever comes to me and that’s that.
Did you have any regrets afterward?
Not until the media got hold of it. To be perfectly honest, all this media attention is driving me nuts. It was on the radio, on channel 9 news in Windsor, in the Windsor Star. I’ve been extremely annoyed about it for the last couple of days.
I’m sorry to hear that.
An impaired driving charge without an accident or something doesn’t normally hit the papers. But it’s the approach I took, I understand that. I just thought I was doing the right thing and I’ve been commended by most for doing so, but it’s become way too much attention. There’s way bigger stories out there then this. You’re from Toronto, right?
Yup.
Isn’t there murderers, rapists, all kinds of bigger fish to fry?
Fair enough. I think the interest comes from the fact that it’s just so unusual for someone to report himself.
Well I try to be as honest as possible, and I haven’t been all that honest with myself. I’ve been fighting this alcoholism thing for quite some time. It’s due to stress, family issues. I can put the bottle away and then something stupid happens and I gotta take the edge off. It’s the same story as any alcoholic.
How long have you struggled with alcohol addition?
For at least 10 years.
Can you tell me a bit about your life and your struggles?
My boys are grown. I have a steady girlfriend. I’ve been out of work for a while and getting more and more depressed. I was a welder by trade but ended up in a coma two winters ago from pneumonia and was told I can’t weld anymore, and I’ve been welding forever. So I’ve been searching for employment and when your resume says ‘welder/fitter, welder/fitter, welder/fitter,’ you apply for a different job, they just throw it in the garbage. So it has been a struggle.
How did your family react to news of you reporting yourself?
My boys are fine with it, they understand. My mother, I have not expressed exactly what happened yet because she’s 90 and I don’t feel like giving her a heart attack.
Do you have any regrets, aside from the attention this has generated?
No absolutely not. I need help. I’m going to a treatment centre in Windsor next week. I’m just waiting for the call back.
The treatment program – how did that get set up?
I called them.
If you were able to call and get into the program without much of a problem, I suppose that means you might have been able to avoid reporting yourself to police, if you’d wanted to.
Too late now.
What do you hope comes out of all this?
That I get the help I need.
Will you let us know how the program goes?
I absolutely will.
