My understanding is that the law being enforced here was brought in by the Clinton administration and has also been enforced by the Bush and Obama administration without much fuss.

But bring in Instagram and social media and now there is an uproar. Why wasn't there one 20 years ago?

These are detention centres for illegal immigrants. Most of these people have no papers or identification whatsoever. It is impossible to know whether the children they are bringing are their own or not. Could some of them be victims of human trafficking? Are the adults smuggling them in for others who are already in the country illegally? Are they supposed to dumped into a general population of adults in detention?

It's not a black and white situation.

More than 750 events are planned across the country on 30 June, under the slogan “Families belong together”, to protest against the separation of more than 2,000 children from their parents in recent weeks after they crossed the border illegally under the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” crackdown.
Poo said the protests were primarily for people who had been horrified at the news of the separations and detentions, but she said the cause would widen into a show of opposition against Trump’s travel ban, which targets five Muslim-majority countries and was upheld by the supreme court this week, as well as the threat of Trump nominating a hard-right conservative for the supreme court seat vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy.

If I were to come to Canada with 5 children and say they are mine and we seek Asylum?
Would we be immediately granted un-restricted access to all of Canada, until our hearing?
Would the Canadian Government provide us with the cash and resources to live until our hearing?
If I could not provide proof these children were mine, would we be allowed un-restricted access?
