I'm going to a moose feast later today. I'm not a hunter but I have a family member who is. Every year after his hunting trips they put out a feast. I love it!
Hey, like I've said, I have no problem with people who eat what they kill....and share that bounty with family and friends. As long as the animal didn't suffer, and was killed and found (not left to die), no problem.
One other issue I have with hunting is people do it to get meat...fine...but I'd have more respect for them if they bought the meat from a farmer who raised the "wild" game and invested some time and energy into it. Going out and buying a rifle, some ammo, and a licence so you can get "free" food, well, that IMO is taking the easy way out. You're effectively making the animal do all the work for you.
See, as I have said, I hate it that hunters strive to get the biggest and best of the herd. This only harms the natural order of things and makes it harder next season to get the biggest and best. A co-worker was telling a fishing story the other day. He said a buddy of his had this "special" spot for getting big pickeral. He told us his buddy landed a 12 pounder and ended up having it mounted....then he went on to say that for the past couple of years, there haven't been so many good fish at this spot.
I turned to him and said "well maybe there would still be big fish there if he'd released that 12 pounder instead of mounting it" nawwww can't be overfished...well duh, that's the reasons. The gene pool was weakened by the taking of this record fish. If that big fish had had the oppurtunity to spawn, then the odds of other big fish being able to survive would be exponentially greater than without it.....
