The word is offensive to the ladies and many men here find it offensive too; we should respect that.

Years ago in Canada the word Retarded and Retard were part of the every day language.
We didn't ban those words.
We replaced them.

We taught children in school through integrating disabled children into the schools.
Children learned that these kids were disabled not Retarded not Something Is Wrong With Them
They had something the other child didn't and they learned about it
So did there parents and then the general public

Retarded and Retard is not a word that is used now, disabled or impaired.

Intellectually disabled, mentally or physically impaired.

Nope. But I will not use it in a derisive or derogatory tone. Nor will I use the others listed in a similar manner. Nor will I use these words as insults because it is not my nature, not because I am incapable of using them. I do not believe in the censoring of words nor the exploitation of their use because a particular word is available.
I am called an "asshole" from a particular member here on the board on a fairly regular basis. It is used as a term of endearment and not as an insult...hmmm I think....

You know this hobby and board is supposed to be entertaining and shits & giggles. Of course, there will be flames from time to time and not everyone will get along but people need to thicken their skins. Seriously, context of threads, posts in those threads and words used in the posts are taken too much to heart by some. Remember where you are folks, it's not church or little league.

Truly, I don't like the word, have I used derogatorily? Yes. I do not recall if I've used here in that manner, but on two occasions in the real world, I have and intended to use it as such. It's the same as the word bastard, which I use at times; it's real meaning is derogatory but most understand the context in which it's used and if someone was offended, I would apologize because they may very well not know their father.

With all that said, I'm discouraged and will be taking a break, not leaving because I wouldn't tell anyone if I were leaving.
