Back to the subject of dentistry for a moment.
I went last week to get a new crown at a new dentist. I needed to get away from my previous dentist, Dr. Mengele. No imprints were necessary, no temporary, no second appointment. They scanned the tooth before and after repair, created a 3d model, and created the crown out of a block of ceramic in a machining center about the size of an office copier. Fuckin' amazing.

Yes and no. Our dental insurance covers check ups and work up $1000 a year. Our company also participates in a flex savings account for medical expenses. At the beginning of year you decide how much you are going to put into it and an amount is taken out (pre-tax) from each paycheck to meet that yearly amount. The drawback is that you have to use it all at the end of the year or you lose it. So you generally end up using it on eyeglasses or non-emergency dental expenses.

I don't like that flex savings account idea. It forces you to have services you don't really need.

For the next year we are in a new account (HSA) that allows up to 5000 to be put in per year and the unused portion rolls over so you don't lose it. But I agree I don't like scrambling to try to spend it.
