TTC drivers caught texting behind the wheel.

Dude, didn't you read my previous posts where studies have indicated that texting while driving is WORSE than driving while intoxicated? About 3x worse as proven by the studies......so if you openly state that you text while you drive, you're openly stating that you drive while impaired.....(and since you don't know it, impaired driving doesn't just mean under the influence of alcohol, that means cough medicine, using your cellphone, shaving, texting, using your laptop, reading a map etc....whatever "impairs" your ability to operate the vehicle safely...)

Blah blah blah.....BFD. Doesn't matter whether you work for a union or not, you still have the union mindset as proven by your statement.

As for media frenzy, give it a rest. It is proven beyond any shadow of any doubt that operating a vehicle while texting impairs your ability by as much as 35% to operate that vehicle safely.

Would you fire someone if they were operating a forklift while drunk?

Once again: your permit analogy is incorrect. Having a permit or not does not automatically indicate a job is done safely or not. Just like driving w/o a licence doesn't automatically indicate that someone can't drive. Just like driving with a licence doesn't automatically indicate that someone can drive safely. Get over it, you're wrong......

First off if and when I get caught texting while driving tell me Tboy what's the fine going to be? Is my vehicle going to be impounded as it would be if I blew over during a breathalyser? I THINK NOT!! In the eyes of the law it's only a $155.00 ticket NOT IMPAIRED DRIVING smart one.

My permit analogy is bang on. People like you that are always harping about other peoples work habits, pays etc... claim to do everything by the book. You clearly do not if you bypass the cities permit regulation. What other by-laws or minor infractions do you do? How about speeding, maybe a roll and stop? The speed limits on Ontario Highways are 100KPH, you do 120 don't you?

Your bidding on a contract and the home owner starts to haggle your price down, but you really need the work. Do you drop your price and cut corners somewhere in the build where you know the homeowner will never know? Come on, come clean you will feel better getting it off your chest and don't worry I don't have a picture of you to submit to the media.

Nope, I don't......never have and never will and furthermore, the difference between MDF primed baseboard and finger jointed pine isn't life threatening. Something YOU have trouble telling the difference of.

Oh and since you're harping on permits permits permits, you should know: 99.999% of my projects DO NOT REQUIRE PERMITS bonehead. You don't need permits to change a door. You don't need permits to install flooring. You don't need permits to install wainscotting. You don't need permits to install a custom entertainment unit. You don't need permits to swap out a light fixture. You don't need permits to change a duplex recepticle to a decora.....

When one feels he is loosing a debate the individual resorts to name calling.

One more thing, I am 5ft. 11 and weigh 185 lbs. The handle refers to the type of ladies I prefer. You know the type, voluptuous, curvaceous even the odd BBW instead of wafers!

People please!!! He didnt kill anyone FFS!!

Suspend him for 1 month, dock his pay and hit him where it hurts (in the wallet)!!
Other then that give the guy a 2nd chance will ya!!

Sheesh!!!! :???:

You peeps are getting ruthless lately!!!! :???:

It's not whether he killed anybody or not that is the point here.

The fact is that his reckless act could have potentially led to an accident which could have resulted in injury or loss of life.

And that is just unacceptable when he is put in a position of public trust.

I for the life of can't think of any reason why he would be texting in the first place.I mean what could be that important that you would take the risk.

After knowing this I would be a little Leary about using the TTC in the future. I'm sure this why the drivers got canned to show the public that this will not be tolerated.

Would you want to take plane ride if you knew the pilot was having a few drinks during the flight? I sure as hell wouldn't.

No, not always.....sometimes it is indicative of the exasperation of trying to get someone to see the forest instead of just the trees.....

Don't bother wasting bandwidth...he just doesn't get it (like most union minded workers).......he is more concerned with the driver's rights as opposed to those he's in charge of.

Guys like chunky will always side with the individual over the good of the whole. Even though the law, and the TTC, agree with us, he still won't see the difference only because he doesn't want to.

For my two cent's worth. Texting and driving is as bad as drinking and driving. Both make you a careless driver. How the hell can you text while going 50 kph and endanger people's lives. I take the 401 every morning and have weaved out of many accidents because I was in complete control.

It has nothing to do with the good for the whole. Tell me why are cops allowed to text and use their cell phones while driving? I might be wrong BUT I don't think the police are allowed to drink and drive are they?

If the drivers ended up with a 10 day suspension without pay DO YOU NOT think the message would have been received? Again you miss the point where I say a reprimand is in order, I DON't agree with them losing their lively hood. I am sure there are wives and children involved and unlike you I do think of all the ramification involved in firing someone from a well paying job.

It drives me nuts when I am following a guy who is driving like a turtle because he's on his cell phone or worse texting on his lap. I hope you get caught and charged accordingly!:grrrrrr:

Cops are allowed to use their personal cell phones and text while driving? Thats a new one on me.

What do you think will be a greater deterrent, a 10 day suspension without pay or the loss of their lively hood?

That's an easy one is it not?

I would do it like this, give the accused texting busdrivers one 2nd chance, and from now on any other driver that gets caught is fired permanently.

This way the guy gets to keep his job, and we have one less unemployed person in the world

Hey the TTC has a strict policy about cell phones while driving and that's you'll get fired. Their union can't do anything about it. Just like a retail worker were to be caught stealing, he/she is fired, no questions asked. There are no second chances when you break to law and violate a strict company policy. People have to be accountable for their actions. I feel bad for the driver who may to support a family but he was stupid enough try this stunt, thinking he is untouchable and that his union would back him up.

Forget Rob Ford secretly riding the subways to check on sleeping TTC employees, get on the buses and streetcars.

Unlike me AND the drivers who were texting, don't forget that minor point......why should I care about the driver's families when they sure as hell didn't? If they did, they wouldn't have been risking their jobs now would they?

Don't worry about 1 less person unemployed, the TTC will replace him no problem, they have a long waiting list of people wanting a job at the TTC.

What really scares me is that this guy may find another job driving a school bus and one day may kill your kids. Think about that.

Actually, with the unions, you probably couldn't do that. If you give ONE driver a second chance you'd probably have to give them all. You'd be setting a precedent. Then you would have ALL the drivers texting thinking "I'll do this until I'm caught...then I won't do it anymore and if I'm NOT caught? Whoopee I can do it all I want" That is, until someone gets killed.......

Unemployed? Hell, they're probably set for life with their union pensions. I even bet that they'll get a severance package that is, if they even become unemployed. I thought the story stated that they might be reassigned? If they are reassigned, they might get a job where they can text all they want AND sleep! I bet that'd make chunky happy! A union worker who gets paid to sleep AND text!!!!

Anyhow, 3 drivers lose their jobs, 3 other people are hired to replace them so the unemployed numbers don't change as a result of this action.....

what's more interesting is that all the fatalities this year (so far) have involved TTC vehicles.....

They can easily check to see if the drivers were texting, simply by checking the phone log. I bet however that the union prevents the investigators from examing the phones unless a lawyer is present....I can also bet if the drivers were texting or talking, they would take steps to erase all records on the phone but that wouldn't work because there'd be a digital record on their carrier....

Imagine the shit storm if they WERE texting? Holy crap........

I hear TTC drivers are buying this new device.
