Ask the Doctor thread

Dear Doctor,

Last month, I was on antibiotics (liquid Novamoxin) for a few weeks. It was the first time in 30 years that I'd taken anything like that, and my stomach has felt awful ever since. Can you explain what the antibiotics have done to my system and recommend something to fix it?

Sincerely,

Ms. Sarah

take one Smerf and call the Doc in the morning :blush2:

Mistress Sarah... I am not a doctor, so I will defer to the expert here...

My understanding is that antibiotics will kill helpful organisms in the gut. It may take a while for them to re-populate. If you talk to your pharmacist, there is a product which will help with that.

But as I say, I am not a doctor... the closest I come is that I like to PLAY doctor.. :0

Playing doctor can be a lot of fun too! I've always wanted to have my very own speculum. :biggrin2:

That reminds me of another problem. My vibrator broke months ago, and there is NOWHERE to shop for sex toys in Chilliwack!

Sorry for the slow reply...but my blue assistant seems to have tried to help out while I was taking care of family stuff. And he works cheap! (But, you do get what you pay for...)

The antibiotics won't have killed your gut flora, and there's very little in the stomach itself to kill as the acid concentration in the stomach is extremely harsh. There's a chance you got irritation of the stomach lining, which could result in an ulcer, so it would be worth talking to your GP. Chances are it will pass, but if your irritation (not the blue one) has lasted more than two weeks, visit your quack.

On a different subject, there's lots of companies that deliver toys, even to Chilliwack. I know several ladies in remote locations who use PinkCherry.com.

Papa, if you're going to moonlight you need to ensure you are not in violation of your work contract.

YOU DO NOT have my permission to be a nurse for OG nor the legs.

GET BACK TO WORK and STAY IN THE KITCHEN!!!! Here's the address just in case you're lost AGAIN! and STAY HOME!

I saw this when it first came out...and I agree with it 100%. Anyone who doesn't get vaccinated is playing a dangerous, and stupid, game. Canada has never used mercury in its vaccines...there is no proven link between vaccination and any disease (such as autism)...and why the hell would anyone take a chance with themselves or their kids based on unproven and unintelligent comments read somewhere by non-professionals?

I've heard all kinds of rationalizations as to why people don't want vaccination for themselves or their kids...and not one argument has actually had any basis in fact. The research is clear: these vaccines save lives and prevent serious diseases. Simply put, if you don't get your vaccines for yourself or your kids, you're playing Russian Roulette. And you're an idiot.

It comes down to weighing the risks but is it not possible that in the long term these foreign substances being injected into our bodies may have adverse effects?

What "foreign" substances? These are mostly what you catch anyway, just in limited, neutralized doses to allow your body to develop immunities. These are not man-made organics, but natural substances, just in controlled conditions (flu shots are usually dead viruses, or very low doses, for example).
