Yes, but whose security is more important. The worse that a person (not a true hacker) can do is troll with multiple identities whilst using a proxy server (that is what I was accused of - I have never used a proxy server in my life) or a VPN service.

But, for someone to not hide their identity whilst surfing these boards can lead to serious repercussions in their relationships, their employment, their social and legal standing.

Absolutely, you have to take your own precautions. If the board are being dicks about it, then it's time to say goodbye to that board, lots of other boards to choose from.
