A very interesting thread which touches a cord with me and brings back memories.

Here's my story. I'm 41 and was in a serious relationship with a 28 year old. We both worked at the same place and grew closer to the point we were actually going to move in together until I met the family. Now bare in mind and this may not be the case with Muckin, I look older than I really am. My hair is grey and I suffer from typical male pattern baldness. I also weigh a few more pounds than I should and she was probably a solid 9/10. The parents did not like me at all! The age which they believed I was older than I was made them completely resistant to accepting me in any way. Slowly this drove us apart and to this day I still miss her quite a bit but c'est la vie.

The age gap is an issue and as much as some will say it's just a number, the people around you make it difficult, especially immediate family but I do wish you both the utmost luck in your future.

I've heard of families doing that for various reason, not just age.
My wife's family tried that on me... her dad even threatened me... it backfired...
and after a year during which we were planning our own wedding entirely on our own...
her mom got embarrassed and they put on a big wedding.

That said we get a LOT of looks when were out, but we simply dont care, when people see us for longer than a quick look they realize pretty fast just how in love we are as we dont hide it, PDA is abundant. lol. People that really get to know us as a couple think what we have is amazing, which it is. That said there will be no family dinners, there is zero chance of me being accepted, age difference and culture being the main reasons.

I can attest to this, it's not pretty. As a matter of fact it gets downright nasty.

If they do not know yet they will find out, unless you meet at a hotel and stay couped up in there, if not you will be eventually caught. We live in a very small world.

Perhaps, but I was actually surprised that after a while my in-laws accepted me and vice versa, my family accepted her, in spite of big cultural differences.
