14-year-old McDonald's hamburger looks almost new

A Utah man says he's hung on to a McDonald's hamburger for 14 years, but even stranger than that --the burger looks almost new.
David Whipple claims that he first bought it in July, 1999 as an experiment to show friends how enzymes work in preserving food, ABC News reported

. Whipple kept the burger in the original paper bag from the fast food chain before forgetting about it in his coat’s pocket. Two years later his wife, Beverly, discovered there.

“We looked at it and said, ‘Oh, my gosh. It’s two years old, it looks like it’s brand new,’” he told ABC. “I said, ‘I wonder how long this thing is going to last?’”.
They didn't have much time to think about it. The father of seven says he got caught up with life's other priorities and the burger was placed back in its wrapper and forgotten about again until closer to six years later, around 2006. After moving house, they discovered it again.

“We were going to give the coats to Goodwill and we found the hamburger again,” he told ABC. Amazingly, the burger still looked almost new and they decided it was worth keeping around.
The Whipples created a “Word’s Oldest Hamburger” blog devoted to it

and was recently a guest on the the daytime talk show “The Doctors “

to talk about it.

In a statement to ABC, McDonald's said: “McDonald’s hamburger patties in the U.S. are made with 100% USDA-inspected beef. They are cooked and prepared with salt, pepper and nothing else – no preservatives – no fillers. Our hamburger buns are made from North American-grown wheat flour. These are the same foods that people buy every day in their local grocery stores."
The family says it plans to hold onto the hamburger, which they recently took along on their family trip to Disney World.

Jamie Oliver Campaign makes McDonald’s change recipe

Jamie Oliver Campaign makes McDonald’s change recipe

What did you expect for a $ 3 burger?. Rather spend $10 on the real thing.

Chef Jamie Oliver won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world. After Oliver showed how McDonald’s hamburgers are made, the franchise announced it will change its recipe.
According to Oliver, the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption.

According to the chef and presenter, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry: “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”

Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver calls it “the pink slime process.”

“Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” asked the chef, who wages a war against the fast food industry.
In one of his initiatives, Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made. After selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains (fat, skin and internal organs) are processed for these fried foods.

The company, Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers.

In the United States, Burger King and Taco Bell had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonald’s to use otherwise “inedible meat.”

Even more disturbing is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the “component in a production procedure” by the USDA, consumers may not know when the chemical is in their food.

On the official website ofMcDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products.

In addition, the franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jamie Oliver’s campaign. On the site, McDonald’s has admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.

McDonald Staff Horror Stories

McDonald Staff Horror Stories

Last night I stopped at Commisso's at 9 pm. The woman I was with wanted to go to Mc'ds just down the road but I insisted on a veal sammich, rice ball and a slice of Pizza. She was putting up a little bit of a fight so I Googled McDonald Horror Stories on my phone to prove to her we should think healthy and stay away Md's and found this.

Not a food story but Industry related. When working as a waiter at a high end restaurant I can tell you that at least 10 times a hostess or manager would walk a couple to their table. Pulled out the chair so the lady can seat first. Guess what?. The guys sat first, so much for manners.
