SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville woman facing third-degree assault charges in connection with an alleged assault at a Summerville pool faced a bond judge Tuesday afternoon.
A judge set a surety bond of $65,000 for Stephenie Sebby-Strempel.
She was charged with one count of third-degree assault and battery and two counts of assaulting, beating or wounding a police officer while resisting arrest, according to court documents.
Sebby-Strempel, 38, allegedly told a 15-year-old teen and his friends that they "didn't belong" at the pool and had to leave, according to the incident report.
The victim told police that the teens were respectful and began to leave when Sebby-Strempel began calling the teens "punks" and using "racial slurs", according to the incident report. The victim then told police that Sebby-Strempel continued to follow the teen toward the pool exit and hit him in the face at least twice, the report stated.
Video of the incident showed her hitting the teen and telling them to "get out" but not include any racial slurs.
The teen told police that he was staying at a friend's house, the report stated.
The friend's father told police that they have a family friend who lives in the Reminisce Community and had extended an invitation to the victim and the friend's family to go swimming at the pool, the report stated.
Monday, when Dorchester County Sheriff's Office detectives went to serve a warrant for the third-degree assault charge at Sebby-Strempel's address, she allegedly pushed one detective into a wall and bit another on the arm, breaking the skin, according to the incident report.
Sebby-Strempel was also prohibited from contacting the victims in any way, including electronic contact, court documents state.

In the video, you can see a woman reach out to the person holding the phone in the incident.
“No child including mine or anybody else’s ever, ever, deserves that type of abuse or treatment," said RocQuermore."And to be struck not once, not twice, but three times by someone that is upset because of the color of someone’s skin, and they don’t belong at their swimming pool.”

The alleged victim’s mother said her son’s action in the video showed the highest level of self-control.
This is also something his lawyer said was restraint you want to see demonstrated across the nation.
“I think in this situation he’s seen how these situations go. We’ve seen exactly the opposite of what could happen if you attempt to defend yourself or act in any way that could be perceived as defending yourself,” said the victim’s attorney Marvin Pendarvis.
