I recently went through screening to see a provider I’ve wanted to meet. Have a prebooked appt coming up. I gave her names of 2 other providers I’ve seen. She checked references and let me know we’re all set. (So now my regs know I’m seeing someone new, I probably shouldn’t, but feel obligated to see them again because they gave me a reference). I sent the new girl an etransfer deposit. I’ve never had to give a deposit before, but I wanted to make sure she doesn’t cancel.
I’ve had a bunch of well reviewed providers cancel appts, and I didn’t want to have to set up a plan B.
Hopefully this will work out.

This is how I and others support ourselves in part or in full.

When I post things I'm always cognizant not only of how it portrays me, but how my comments may affect others, directly or indirectly. If a new member joins and sees seasoned hobbyists remark in this way it might dissuade them from booking me and others like me who screen more stringently. I think it very understandable given my past experiences why I operate in this manner now.

Please bear in mind that while you have no vested interest in this discussion, I and others do. My fear could be unfounded but it makes me very uneasy when I read mostly hypotheticals that may IMO unduly negatively influence others. I'm not saying that your fears are completely unfounded as they're not, but I truly believe there's more shenanigans being perpetrated by anonymous people out there than well known, transparent providers like myself and others.

Everything we do and say has a ripple effect!

Sophia, based on your passionate and very intelligent replies I can see this issue really hits home for you.

Thank you for including Batman's disgusting attempts at intimidating you and it's wastes of skin like these people that ruin it for everyone else. I can see how you want to fend off any chance of having any of these type of individuals knocking on your front door.

So, the appt went well with the provider who needed a reference and a deposit
I don’t see why it’s difficult.
Already have the next date set up. She didn’t ask for deposit this time.
And I’m looking forward to more fun.

I've been asked by Lori on two occasions to be a reference for a client application submitted there. I've also been pre-approved by them to set up an account of my own. It's on my TDL. Furthermore, I've also been asked to be a reference for a client on TER's White List, another source of reputable hobbyists.

You're asking seasoned veterans like MM to not teach new comers how to be safe on this side of the fence per say. You are one of the good ones but not all are as responsible as you. Some can be quite vindictive. I've known of ladies themselves fake booking other ladies, denying references for silly reasons. Once the claws come out some can be quite ruthless.

You are in a tough situation Jessica and you do make sense but there are some men that have a hard time understanding why the screening process works for your safety. To them: Ignore them.

I don't believe most "men" have an issue with references, it's giving out their real information that is the issue. Especially for the married men and let's face it, many of the "men" are married.

Even for a single guy it can be tough. Look at how they shame Johns here in the states. They'll post your name and info to embarrass you. It could cost a career in some fields, cause problems with friends and family, etc. It's not always just about a wife or SO finding out.
