Unhappy with having to pay a restaurant's auto-gratuity of 18% for parties of eight or more, a pissed-off pastor used his receipt to express his indignation.
"I give God 10% — why do you get 18?," the man wrote above the autograt line before crossing out the pre-printed tip and signing the receipt "pastor."

The St. Louis-area server who posted a pic of the receipt on Reddit said the pastor was dining with a party of 20, and asked to have the $200+ bill broken up into smaller increments in a failed attempt to avoid paying the 18% tip.

"They had no problem with my service, and told me I was great," . "They just didn't want to pay when the time came."
Redditors have been trying to track down the less-than-charitable Christian, but have so far been unable to identify the culprit.

At least one pastor was forced to issue a response denying responsibility, and the server herself to stop posting personal information of random people "who don't deserve a Reddit mob banging down their Internet door."

The article about her firing is terrible that the 'Pastor' called Applebee's demanding all of their staff (managers-bussers) be fired at that location!

I think the pastor's behaviour is reprehensible and his/her comments on the receipt demeaning to the staff, who make 3.50 plus tips that have to be shared with others and have tax taken off as well.

In fact, the pastor's comment about giving 10% to god is more demeaning to the staff. The pastor's wages come from donations to whatever church they are employed by and should not be saying I give to the church.

The pastor is the douchebag of day!

Ok, so his displeasure in having the option of " tipping " & of what amount removed from him may not be the most tactful way of expressing it, I think he is making a valid point. There is generally accepted tipping ettiquetes BUT I think tipping & of what amount should be still an option AND it traditionally was a mechanism of incentive to servers to PROVIDE GOOD SERVICE. ( and a reward for doing so ) not an automatic payment.

The thing is, this restaurant makes it known that they require this tip in advance for parties of 8 or more. So he and his party had the option of not going to this restaurant. They chose to go. You can't have it both ways.

the thing is, it is illegal to charge over the printed prices.

The argument that a tip will automatically added is more of a convenience not something the courts will enforce.

10% is a bit low but as I understand it from waiters and waitresses here, 10% is more that alot of people leave.

Think about it on a 30 dollar bill 4.50 is 15% r the customary tip. Personally I think that is way too low.

while I believe in tipping for good service.

Many people will not tip.

While in London I would leave a tip and that would always confuse the wait staff or beer keep.
