Woman, 18, accused of raping man at knifepoint gets probation

Just want to make sure that is known, she did do close to a year in jail and the victim asked the judge NOT to sentence her to more jail time.

So I don't think a valid debate on the double standard can actually be had here given facts like these.

Ever hear a woman say he never meant to hurt me?

Same words come from abused people all the time, when speaking to the Judge.

Ok... still waiting for your point sweetie.

Unless you want to point out some examples, I can't tell if you are calling this a double standard, or agreeing it is not.

The OP sees as a double standard because based on the title, not the facts, a guy would have got 5 years. I doubt the OP even saw the jail time already had or the victim's statement to the judge.

I am all for debating double standard. I am not even sticking up for the women in this case. If you can find me examples of a lady who was raped, asking the judge not to sentenced any more jail time to the man, and he was still given more time, I willing to read and agree it would be a double standard, but with one line statements, you are not really saying anything, are you?

I am calling it what it is.
The victim defending the abuser.

Ok, what does that have to do with the OP's point of discussion then?

I feel we are talking about apples and you decided to throw in a random "I like pears"

If you want to discuss Apples we need to see the entire Bushel.

Let's say an 18 year old man rapes his girlfriend at knife point... Would TIME SERVED be a sufficient sentence?

I am not a judge. I don't make these calls. However, I already stated I am not defending her so please don't try to portray as though I am.

I offered up facts from the article that I do not believe the OP read. I believe he based his opinion of a double standard on her receiving probation INSTEAD of jail time. That was my comment.

Now you want to compare the amount of jail time, sure. Let's do that. However, you will not find me much of a debater on this point. I also feel female teachers should be charged, convicted and have to serve jail time for sexual involvement with students. To which many men are quite happy to disagree with me so long as she is hot.

Point is, double standards don't go over well with me. However there is a big difference between offering up some facts, and defending a person like this and I think you are smart enough to know that.

All that said I have no use for Rapists or Abusers and believe they can not be rehabilitated.
I want the maximum term for them.

I think he is just suggesting that in past cases where a woman has asked that her rapist not be sent to jail, people will often say that her request shouldn't be factored in as victims are sometimes considered "compromised" in these situations. So that using this guy's request that she not be jailed further, should also be disregarded.

I don't think he's saying that you have a double standard, just the many people out there do. They'll look at this sentencing and say that she should get less because she's a woman or because the guy said not to jail her further, but will look at a similar case where the female victim asks mercy for her rapist ans say that the rapist should rot in jail for life.

There are a shit-ton of people out there with double standards right now and it's putting everyone on edge when we all try to have discussions.

I see what he is saying now. I just wish he would type more words to express that first time instead of the vague comments that that leave me actually asking what point he is trying to make. We would have seen we are actually in an agreement in 2 posts instead of 10. LOL
