Ask the Doctor thread

The best remedy you can do at home (or buy prepared OTC) is a salicylic acid paste (aspirin dissolved in water to make a thick paste). Make the paste and apply it to the wart. The reason this works is that salicylic acid dissolves keratin (protein) which makes up both the wart and the dead skin around the wart. (Technically, salicylic acid is a keratolytic medication.) The worse that happens on the skin is redness or a small burning sensation, but that can be fixed by washing off the paste and discontinuing use for a few days, then starting again with a more dilute paste.

Vinegar is also an acid (acetic acid) that has some karatolytic properties, but not as much as salicylic acid (vinegar you can buy is only 5% solution, which is pretty mild). Stick with the aspirin paste: your warts don't smell acidic that way!

Some people use the freezing methods using commercially available sprays or mixtures, but it's hit or miss in my experience, and can sting like a sonofabitch.

Thanks for the tips.

Good Doctor, I have a flared hemorrhoid and decided since it's so annoying and keeps causing me such discomfort I've decided to give it a name.

My hemorrhoids new name is Chase.

Tell me, what do you suggest will bring down the swelling so I can sit in comfort without having to use a donut pillow? [h=1][/h]

Pains in the ass are difficult to get rid of, and just become persist annoyances. Sometimes, you just gotta live with the pain. :-Cool/"

Dear Doctor, my problem is something that I know many women face.

Why is it I feel so frisky during my menstruation cycle?

I'm so sorry I know this maybe tmi.

Barbara, I have earned my wings a few times, I can oblige!:wink2:

I have been on the receiving end of that friskiness many times, and am glad it is there. Also, I have absolutely no issue with any activity during that time, as I know blood is sterile (and I am always sure my partner does not have anything that can be transmitted by that medium). The reason why most women are more aroused or arousable during their period is simple: your body floods your system with hormones, which not only trigger the menstruation but also can trigger a desire for consequence-free sex. Yeah, sex is there as an impulse to make obnoxious kiddies, but humans do actually enjoy sex (surprise!) and the opportunity for non-pregnating sex is a trigger in our brains. The hormones do the rest. You'll often find there's a peak in arousal the day before the period actually starts. The astute male can actually taste a difference in vaginal fluids when this is happening: I've used that as a parlour trick for years!

FWIW, those women who report being turned off during their period mostly report that they are repulsed by the thought of sex with their bodily fluids, but not because of hormonal reasons. As for me, and I bet a few others here....bring it on! Monthly, even! :biggrin2:
