At this point in time, my understanding is that Japan has for assistance from the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding their nuclear reactors.

It is incredibly admirable that Canada is ready to assist Japan when needed. Canada has stated the Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART), The 17 member victim identification team (VIT). Canada has offered chemical, biological, and nuclear technical expertise and equipment. CF troops to help with humanitarian assistance and planes for relocation.

Global Medics from Etobicoke will deploy their volunteers and supplies to Japan. Canada's large Japanese community will donate great amounts.

Gee I didn't realize I would be giving money to a country. Silly me I thought I was giving money to the Red Cross or whomever so they could help someone who has been left homeless. I suspect I can have one less cafe latte today to donate $5 though Rodgers. Actually that's BS - if I couldn't do both I shouldn't be wasting time on the boards. One thing that this reminds me of is to give something to the food banks as I have neglected them this year because I've been doing Princess Margaret and CCS. The notion that we can't do something extra in times of crisis strikes me as mean spirited and I hope I'm never in a financial situation where I have to chose over what are relatively immaterial amounts. If I ever am in this situation and am further threatened by being in a natural disaster I certainly wouldn't be too proud to accept help from a foreigner
