I remember the first time I joined into this forum I had to spend tooth and nail arguing that gender identity is a valid experience among non-cis people. I had to explain that trans women are WOMEN (and thus have to be referred to using she/her pronouns) and any degrading genitalia-related remarks made towards trans women is an act of transphobia because it invalidates their gender identity. I was also surprised to notice that hardly anybody on this forum knows anything about the terms "gender non-binary" or "gender fluid" despite me using simple words to describe it to them, and even if I do they still have trouble understanding those terms.

I'm disappointed because I view this as a very progressive website and we ARE living in the year 2017, and yet despite of that we still have countless transphobes on this site making dick jokes about trans women like a bunch of cavemen. But then again this is a site populated mostly by cisgender heterosexual men so maybe I should not be surprised at the amount of transphobia.

To those of you who support trans rights - is it worse on the HUBGFE website than any other public websites when it comes to ignorance and transphobia/homophobia? Or is it about the same?

Dude it's not just this website. It's everywhere. Some do, some don't and most just don't care either way, why they don't educate themselves enough.

Just like the pro or anti pro about abortion. If it doesn't affect one, then not much care either way.

i agree with everything you said but i also uphold the belief of people having their own opinions. i decide to educate myself on this but if others don't it's their choice - i guess it just isn't high up on their priority list. i'm not one to change someone else's opinion even if i don't think it is right.

Yes there is transphobia here and on *every forum*. I've seen it many times. Some of my past posts in support of gender identity and transpeople, had some questioning my sexuality. Not much you can do or say in the presence of ignorance. Some people will believe what they believe, it's best to ignore them and comment to what you feel just and connected to.
Ignorance, negativity and bias thrive and live where ever people are, you can try and educate some, but as you've observed, some aren't open to being educated. CCman has latched onto the case of his Dr.Money and David Remier, to * try* and push and prove his opinion, and that case, an obvious case of abuse, in that David wasn't born a transgender, nor did he want to live as a transgender person. He was a medically botched male, ( meaning his penis was destroyed during a botched circumcision) and because of this, his genitals were removed and he was then trained to become the opposite sex. He had wanted to live as a male, as he had no identifying characteristics of a female. He thought male, and felt male. That case has nothing to do with the realities of true trangenderism. It simply shows that there are quacks on both sides of the argument. Which imo proves that transgender people *are* born that way and *not* socially created because of an "ideology", that imo, is a reality.

It applies to any of the "arguments" we have here. For example, trying to speak to someone about the 2nd Amendment.....they don't often know the difference between automatic, semi-auto, 12-guage, 10mm, fire-select, etc. etc. etc. no matter how you try to explain it to them. And do they want to learn all of the terms so that people can come to an understanding? Nope. "JUST NO GUNS".

And who the hell has time to become an expert on every single topic in the news? I am not going to spend time on learning the multiple sexual identifications that are coming out in news stories or conversations when I have a special needs 7 year old and wife and extended family that I want to spend time with. We often forget when we get on our pulpits in here that this site is for entertainment and information exchange.....this isn't a debate floor in government. I just come here for fun and fantasy.

I think that most people in here are like me. I have no issues with how someone chooses to live their life and how they wish to identify. I support your right to do what you want to do within the law and general concept that each person has their rights to do what they want as long as everyone involved is of consenting age and a willing participant. But at the same time, don't expect me to be as into the discussion as you are.

Yes, there are some people here that have issues with certain topics or types of people. Some just like to argue/debate. Hell, I'll sometimes take the opposite side of what I believe in, just to have a good discussion.

I will admit that I am very ignorant on the entire trans issue. Not even sure if I can say that word and be politically correct.
I must say that I have tried to read as much as I can on the subject but I still have a bazillion questions on the subject.

Although there are people who truly do believe they are some other gender than what they are genetically, there seems to be a growing movement of younger people who drop gender altogether in a sort of way to express solidarity and show acceptance but more likely for attention.

How do we tell who is truly genuine and who is being an attention seeking you know what?. The true gender non-conforming people will about 99% of the time identify with the opposite gender, male/female, female/male, without all the wishy washy in betweens.

The attention seekers are the ones who demand that you address them as some made up word. These people seek an agender appearance so that others are unsure of what they actually are or what they identify as.

This confusion is done purposefully because it provides them with a heightened level of attention and when they are misgendered they can heighten their attention even more by calling that person out and creating a dramatic situation that feeds their narcissistic behavior.

God forbid if I ever have a kid but if I do then I will gladly teach them that different sexual orientations and identities are to be respected. And I will gladly pay tax money to support sexual equality.

Saying "trans women are dangerous because they rape little girls" without quarter of an evidence to back it up is not opinion; it's hate speech.

Making dick jokes about trans women or completely disrespecting their gender identity by calling them "bros" is not opinion; it's hate speech as well as being extremely disrespectful and crude.

Opinions are like "I hate celery" or "I think Lady GaGa sucks" or "Toronto TTC system sucks" which is vastly different from stuff like "trans women are men" or "trans women molest little girls".

You are completely off base here. Opinions are what each individual has a right to say. Right or wrong still an opinion. If they start writing stuff like kill all or rape all, now becomes something that should be reported to the police.

i disagree with what some people said. they are uneducated. let them be and maybe they will find their own will to educate themselves on it. THAT was my point.

i've been in LGBTQ activist movements and that's not to say they don't make jokes and jabs about themselves either. criminal activity from internalized homophobia is horrible too and i'm just saying it can be seen on BOTH sides. the numbers are obviously contrastingly different but we can't keep viewing ourselves as saints and viewing those with an opposing opinion as stupid because THAT WILL NOT CHANGE A THING.

i decide to NOT block them out with negativity and exclusion. this gives them a negative view of LGBTQ people. instead educate people without debate and if they retaliate, leave them be bc some people can't be changed but they must have OTHER great qualities.

That's fair, though I'd appreciate it if you didn't use that many caps because there's no need to scream at me. Sorry if it seems I'm trying to alienate you, because that was not my intention. I'll admit that I'm far less tolerant towards many of the homophobic and transphobic shit that these men say because of my history of gender dysphoria as well as other complicated issues that I prefer not to get into.

I don't expect people here to be experts on LGBTQ rights but I expect them to have some, at least an eeny teeny level of decency. Instead I open up a thread that pertains to transgenderism (which, I'll be honest, the initial intention of making them was to troll, not that I mind because I love talking and discussing) and all I see are dick jokes, nasty comments about how "trans women are child molestors", someone posting bogus articles that completely invalidate the experiences of trans people, etc. filled to the brim, and aside from one or two "free speech" posts that amounts to nothing, the only people who have shown some respect towards the LGBT community are you, me, and cristy. I don't consider this a "oh just a few people having a different opinion on LGBTQ people", no it's more like "this forum is downright hostile and extremely unwelcoming towards LGBTQ people".

As for LGBTQ people making jokes and jabs at each other, it's different from heterosexual cis men making homophobic or transphobic jokes against us. For one thing, they've never been through the experience of systemic transphobia, homophobia, or queerphobia to be able to distinguish between what's appropriate and what's not. If another trans person made a dick joke about a trans woman it would be a joke, but if a heterosexual cis man or woman made the same joke I will see it as oppression because their experiences and intent are very different. It's the same logic as why white people should never use the N-word, while black people are free to use that word amongst themselves - because of the differences in privilege and experiences with systemic oppression.

I would never view myself as a saint which is why I always try to explain my point, whereas the guys here either they throw ad hominim attacks like "lolol chick with a dick" or make faulty reasoning that they refuse to back off from (like the "trans women are not women because they can't give birth" example). If someone else's arguments make more sense to me I will legitimately listen and respect that, but so far none of the transphobes on this forum has made even one compelling argument.

But Muck, regardless of what I say thanks for being in support of LGBTQ people <3 You are not my enemy.
