CA, not to be negative, but even if you graduate from university, getting a decent job will still be a problem. If you notice Alek had a lot of jobs, and couldn't hold on to one for very long.

I'm just glad that I no longer have to look for a job. Right now it's easier for me living in my mid 50's, then it was in my 20's that's for sure!!

Ugh :( Yeah unfortunately. I was told to do computer science and hardcore math or whatever (due to the stereotype that autistic people are good with computers or math) but nope NOT me lol.

I'm really into social work and helping people in need, like working in a shelter, but that wouldn't make me enough money for a living. And having a speech impairment is so detrimental for jobs that involve a lot of talking and communication. But my heart is there, I wish I can plug my brain into an audio device and speak telepathically.

CA, I know 100% what you're talking about. IMHO, finding a decent paying job is the worst thing about having Aspergers. Not only do you have to find a job, then if you do fluke into something, then you wind up pissing off your co-workers somehow--LOL

I could write a book on all my job controversies, but I think I've bored the HUBGFE membership enough for one night--LOL

CA, in all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck, and don't be so tough on yourself. Life is too short. Have a great evening everyone!!

Thanks I really appreciate it. :)

Another thing about me and maybe it's within my nature but I hate working for another individual with more power than me. Like I strongly dislike the idea of kissing bosses' asses and working for said boss. I guess within the non-Autistic population it's second nature to them - kiss your boss's ass and lick their buttholes and get paid. But not me; I'm the type of person where if I'm working, I'm working to provide service to customers, I could care less what my boss wants. I have been fired several times in the past at jobs because I prioritized the needs of the customers over the needs of my boss and it's so fucking BS that way.

I find that as an Aspie my biggest challenge is getting people to like me. That main question always pops into my head - how the FUCK do I get people to like me? Do I have to show them that I am an awesome humanitarian or something? I could, but someone else can do it as well, and not being autistic means they can masquerade it better than me. Also I hate resumes, hate hate HATE it. Why? Because I hate lying and exaggerating. It's totally not who I am.

I'd say my best bet is to run my own business, and I'm exploring where to begin, what education I need, and how to maintain it. But I'm not a business person; I'm a person who cares about others; problem is that wouldn't get me enough money. Of course I can make the case that money isn't always everything, but in this capitalistic society reality is reality; money is everything. Sometimes I wish I can just lie down and dream a fantasy world where everything is fair and the way I want it and live there forever.

You're missing the point. By understanding why the killer mass murdered people it'll allow us to recognize patterns in the future to prevent another incident like this from happening again. I couldn't care less about Erik but what I do care is how people like Maurice is using his disability as nothing more than a scapegoat so I care about the marginalized disabled people who are being vilified.

How do you arrest someone for their thoughts?

Unless they articulate them to others, document a plan of actively try to recruit others they have committed no crime.
Otherwise every woman who fantasizes about killing their husband would be arrested.

In hindsight, Minassian should have just seen some SP's on HUBGFE. Then maybe he wouldn't have been so sexually frustrated, and killed all those people. You never know??

Men get rejected by women all the time. That doesn't mean they kill people. IMHO, you'll never be able to control the occasional psychotic deranged lunatic, who decides to run down 10 people in a van. Just too repeat, you could have 10000 autistic men support Elliot Rodger and nothing would happen.

Please don't confuse me for putting Asperger/Autism together with Incels. That is not what I am saying at all.

I am saying the opposite actually. There are hundreds of women dead because a "normal" guy was rejected and didn't like it. Wives and girlfriends who left men, men who were just rejected from the get-go.

I totally believe his issues are way past Aspergers. I know too many who are a very well adjusted people who just deal with things a little differently, to ever label this an "aspergers" issue.

It may not have helped him with women, but the idea of Incel is that it is women rejecting him for no reason. Not that having a mental issue has made things a little rough for him. There is a big difference between that thinking.

IMHO, physical disabilities are different then mental disabilities. You could be confined to a wheelchair, yet your brain is totally normal. Whereas if you have aspergers, our brains think differently then normal NT (neuro typical) people.
@ROBERTSON, You're certainly entitled to your opinion. IMHO, there's no right or wrong answer.

Some good posts here by you Winslow.

Need a clarification though, are you saying that Asperger's is not a disability ?

I would really like to hear your opinion.

Myself, I tend to be similar to a Sheldon, with regards to scheduling for example, except for bowel movements :sorry2:, and his late blooming sex activity, and the exception brain powers though.

Thanks Robertson. Yes, Aspergers is definitely a disability. It really needs to be diagnosed by a Clinical neuropsychologist, who can perform all sorts of IQ and personality tests on you etc However, a Family doctor or a Psychiatrist could also diagnose you with aspergers as well.

However, under the DSM V that was released in 2013, Aspergers is no longer considered a separate disorder. Aspergers is now under the general umbrella of "Autism Spectrum Disorder." I hope this helps??

Hi Jessica. I always enjoy reading your posts. However, no one really knows what caused this psycho to snap like that. the guy obviously just "snapped", as from what I read, he was holding down a couple of jobs, but then kept getting fired from each one.

IMHO, the Incel movement, in a sick way does make sense. In this society, if you're a guy who has a crappy job, or even unemployed, then no woman will look at you, as either dating or marriage material. Unless the guy looks like Brad Pitt---LOL

You can be a guy who is totally ugly, yet is a Lawyer, DR, or accountant, and you'll always get ladies, unless you have a totally awful personality etc As usual, just my opinion!!

I don't think Incels make sense. To blame everyone else but your possible self, for the way your life has turned out, is not a valid aguememt and that is what these types of "movements" usually have in common.

While I appreciate your opinion on what women like, my experience is different. But then I don't really like Brad Pitt. So what do I know.

what a hell of a thread... CA and Winslow, i appreciate your input on personal experiences with Asperger’s—i know many would’ve rather stayed away and kept their mouth shut to avoid robertson insulting people with autism. i assume he is still rambling his dumb ass off to make up for his small everything. anyway, it’s admirable that both of you are so open to discussing it! i’m glad you spoke up :good: winslow—love that you tried to keep the peace to some degree hahahah it’s impossible with that guy good job.

Supposedly you took the gutless way out and put me on ignore, no problem, I can still straighten you out, again.

Still with the lies, I have never insulted anybody because they were autistic, if I insulted you, it was in reprisal for your constant childish and ignorant insulting.

But do continue with your personal insults, it only goes to continue to confirm just what the fuck you are.

If you are autistic, that does NOT give you the right to insult everybody who disagrees with you.

And do NOT consider Winslow and you to be in the same league, to be considered anything similar to you, should be a banning offence.

Yes and no.

I do not consider Asperger's as a disability since I do not see myself as being disabled, but in the medical sense we are classified as being "disabled', and we do fulfill the criteria of being "disabled" when it comes to social interactions, jobs, and relationships. We have a disability only in the sense that we are victims of ablism and oppression, but it would be incorrect to put us in the same classification as people in wheelchairs.

INCELS is basically a community comprised of power hungry men who are offended that they're not getting the amount of women that they can fuck or sleep with as much as they expected. Then it eats them up on the inside and they scapegoat women, resulting in them utilizing violent methods to "get back against society".

It's a toxic snake pit that facilitates sexually repressed men to seek violence as the ultimate strategy as opposed to making them accept who they are and getting them to learn how to deal with rejection and take responsibility over their own actions. ANY men can be a part of it, disabled or non-disabled, and even women can be a part of it. Hell, the INCEL group was started by a woman.

Thanks to both of you for posting civily, and for being informative and insightful on many levels.

Nobody should have been born with any disability, how ever that term is used, that is why I am a non believer, but that's another subject were I piss off people.

On the term, disability, I feel it really doesn't fit when discussing autism, any more than it would when discussing homo sexuality, but I guess we are stuck with it until something better comes a long.

Not that anybody gives a shit, my take is that the van driver's mannerisms would make it extremely frustrating for him to pursue a relationship with an unlike minded women.

He then comes across that site that seems to promote hatred towards women, and this gives him a means of venting his frustration.

Should more help have been available to him, sure sounds like it, but one has to assume he would actually take part though, but this is NOT the only area that our system falls apart, but simply one example of many, unfortunately with disastrous results.

Now I have to go and make sure all of my pens and pencils on my desk are in order, and all pointing in the same direction :biggrin2:.

If I have offended anybody with this post, this time it was unintentional.

Thanks for the civil response on your part too. Let's get the elephant in the room addressed here - the problem with your "nobody should have been born with any disability" argument is that it's a blatantly ablist thing to say. It doesn't promote acceptance of disabled people or the idea that they are human beings; all it does is toss them into a curb and label them as unwanted or undesirable. If someone were to say "nobody should have been born non-white/gay/women/poor" I'm sure that's an extremely shitbag thing to say, so why is it okay for you to take a shit on disabled people? Because they cannot fight back?

Autism fulfills the scientific definition of a disability and you just simply have to accept that, because a) we struggle in social settings and b) the patterns of which we communicate and socialize is not consistent with societal expectations leading us to struggle in social environments and workplaces. However in a perfect environment where people are not judgemental or if bullies did not exist autism would just be another trait, and I would be hesitant to call it a disability, but for now it's a disability only in the sense that it severely marginalizes and underprivileges us.

You're learning, which I like :) but instead of giving your 2 cents on what you think of disabled people the best way for you to show respect to us is to let us speak and listen, and to let us have a voice.

@ROBERTSON, IMHO, Autism is definitely a disability. Some psychologists will say you have aspergers, or specific learning disability, or PDD-NOS. Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified - Wikipedia

It all depends on the specific Doctor's or Psychologists clinical bias??

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if you're diagnosed with any of the above three disorders. At the end of the day, if you have autism, then getting a decent job is a major problem. At least if you know you have autism, you're able to mitigate your weaknesses and focus on your strengths.

My opinions on how best to deal with an aspergers diagnosis.

1. Get a vasectomy 2. Get as much much family support as you can. 3. Try to stay away from people as much as you can---LOL You'll just annoy them. 4. Take a course in money management, so you won't get ripped off by crooked financial advisors etc 5. Learn to manage your own money, as even your own family, can try and rip you off--LOL

Robertson, I know you like to be controversial, and you do make me laugh. Autism is totally different then homosexuality---LOL

Look at Kathleen Wynne, as an example. She's a lesbian and earning over $350000/yr. I don't know of any autistic people, who earn over $350000/YR??
